Lair Signed Art Pottery Stoneware Vase 1970's Vintage
Here's a great looking vintage art pottery vase made in our studio by Bill in the 1970's, during our 14 year career (1972-1986) as studio potters. We made functional ware to earn a living, but also made semi-functional art pottery and sculpture... our first love being art. We both graduated from college with art and teaching degrees, taught art for a number of years, and then began the pottery in 1972. We have shown our work in galleries and museum shows in the Northeast including the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Philadelphia Civic Center Craft Show, Philadelphia Museum Craft Show, Spirit of the Earth Gallery in New Hope, Pa., various New Jersey Designer Craftsmen Shows, and Northeast Craft Fair at Rhinebeck.
This piece is wheel thrown and altered, reduction fired stoneware with a barium matt glaze over Albany slip. It is 8.75" high x 6.5" at the widest point. Impress signed LAIR. There's a 1/4" x 1/8" chip inside rim edge. In very good condition otherwise. This was a piece we sold in the 70's and actually bought back from an estate sale about 5 years ago.
