Ken Vavrek Pottery Sculpture Raku 1970's Moore Art Phila PA
This wonderful wall sculpture was made in 1976, by respected Philadelphia potter and teacher, Ken Vavrek. It is stoneware clay that has been raku fired. It is signed K Vavrek 76 in lower front right corner. 24" high x 20" wide. A paper label on the back gives the title: Sand Azor and his name. We purchased it in the 70's from Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia. It is in very good condition.
Vavrek has been working with clay for about 40 years. He teaches pottery and glass at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. He was instrumental in founding the Clay Studio (a potter's co-operative) in 1974. His work has been shown in many galleries and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, The Everson, The Renwick, The Philadelphia Art Museum, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Rosenfeld Gallery.
