Alan Willoughby Studio Pottery Porcelain Casserole 70's
I believe this vintage porcelain casserole was made by Alan Willoughby, a studio potter acquaintance who has lived and worked here in southern NJ since we began potting in 1970. It's signed AW and since we purchased a group of pottery that he made back in the 70's, I feel pretty sure it's his. He is still potting and showing his works in various galleries and shows, although his more recent work is wood fired. He is also director of Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown, NJ.
The casserole is hand thrown porcelain with thrown finial handle and applied strip handles. Albany slip type glaze over a honey colored gloss was reduction fired. It is 6" high, 6.25" in diameter, 7-7/8" wide at handles and holds about 1 quart. In excellent condition. I never used it in the oven... just for serving.
