TRUE STORY Mag 1930 Perfume-Vantines-Cannert Cover-Dove
True Story magazine, April 1930, features cover art by well known portrait artist and illustrator Jules Cannert (born Paris 1890, came to US in 1906). It is a portrait of actress Billie Dove (Lillian Bohny 1903-1997), star of silent film and Zeigfield Follies, known as the "American Beauty". This magazine includes 14 vintage "true stories" of romance. mystery, etc., other articles, and a lot of swell advertisements. I'm partial to (and bought this mag for) the the perfume, compact, and powder ads from Vantines, Houbigant, Tre-Jur, Djer Kiss, April Showers, Princess Pat, etc. but there are also great ads from Planters Peanuts, Ford cars, and various cigarette companies including Spud!
11.75" x 8.5". Paper, especially on cover is brittle. Cover corners and edges have little tears and pieces missing. Spine end is worn and most words are worn away. Crease at bottom middle of first few pages is torn on some and on cover up from bottom about 1.5". Worn white spot on cover near Billie Dove's right eye. Corner tips of some pages (especially toward front of magazine) are torn or missing. But most pages are in good condition and if you collect and/or frame vintage advertising, there's a lot of good stuff in here to work with.
