1931 SCREEN PLAY Magazine 1931 Dietrich Cover by Henry Clive

This vintage July 1931 Screen Play Secrets of Hollywood magazine has a great cover of Marlene Dietrich by Henry Clive. 114 pages of movie star pictures, movie news, articles, gossip, romance, interviews, and some great ads too. Feature article about Marlene Dietrich entitled: The Girl Who Dared to Shock the World. "Skippy in Person" is a rolicking interview with 8 year old Jackie Cooper. "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is about Joan Blondell. "A New Idol for Feminine Hearts" introduces Joel McCrea. The Popularity Parade features full page pictures of Gloria Swanson, Richard Arlen (loose from magazine), Sidney Fox, Ina Claire, Will Rogers, Marian Marsh, Loretta Young. Other stars pictured (along with film, fashion, or romance info) include: Gary Cooper, Greta Garbo, Clara Bow, Claudette Colbert, Jack Dempsey, Estelle Taylor, Constance Bennett, Mary Astor, Billie Dove, Jean Arthur, Jeanette McDonald, Robert Montgomery, Carole Lombard, Joel McCrea, Lionel Barrymore, Norma Shearer, William Powell, Bela Lugosi, Joe E Brown, Edwina Booth, Conchita Montenegro, Leslie Howard, Joan Crawford, Helen Twelvetrees, Mitzi Green, Anita Page, Mary Nolan, Maureen O'Sullivan, etc.

The magazine is in very good condition especially when considering this is 77 year old low rag content paper. No musty or smoky smells. Very clean inside. Most wear is to outside: Spine has wear and torn/missing paper at top and bottom. Front cover has a couple tiny edge tears on right, missing bit in red at top left corner, graying at upper left, tiny dig in Dietrich's hair at lower left, gray smudge on chin, light surface scratches. 1/2 of page 35/36 with So This is Hollywood gossip column is missing.
