1977 Spacecraft Black Sphere w Nipple Michael Biello Ceramic Art Sculpture Vtg
This hanging black nipple ball was made by Michael Biello, aka Spacecraft, Philadelphia, PA. We purchased it directly from him in 1977 when we were both showing our work at the very first Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show held that year. It is a hollow ceramic sphere with a rubber baby bottle nipple inserted into an opening in the sphere. The original nipple was blue. We have replaced it several times over the past 43 years as the rubber tends to disintegrate. It hangs from an almost invisible line of monofilament which is still attached. It is in excellent condition.
A little info about Michael Biello: He is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited internationally. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1973 with a BFA in Ceramics. He opened Spacecraft – a storefront studio/showroom near, and later on, South Street in Philly. He has continued to create and show his work in Noho New York (1989–1996) and Old City Philadelphia (1996–present).
