Rare Spoon Set 8 Grapefruit Melon 1 Jelly 1847 Rogers Eternally Yours w Wood Box

Here is a rare set of 1847 Rogers Bros silver plated spoons in their 1941 pattern Eternally Yours.

  • The set includes 8 grapefruit or melon spoons and one jelly server.
  • They are in the original wooden presentation box with 1847 Rogers Bros label
  • Grapefruit spoons are 6" long. Jelly spoon is 6-1/4" long.
  • Box has a couple of lighter spots on the lid but the spoons are in excellent condition. They have darkened with time but appear to have been rarely or never used. I see no scratches so I haven't polished them and will leave that to the new owner.
  • I was curious as to why a jelly spoon would be included with grapefruit spoons and discovered that in the past "jelly" referred to fancy gelatinous desserts (pre-Jello), not the fruit preserves we put on toast in the morning. They were made in incredible molds that looked like castles, animals, shells, flowers and other amazing shapes. They were considered the height of elegance in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I didn't know about these vintage desserts and found a great article with wonderful pictures at historic food dot com slash jellies that you might like to see if you didn't know about these desserts either.
