1 LOS CASTILLO Mid Century Mexico Mixed Metal Figural Ashtray Trinket Dish Taxco
Vintage Los Castillo mixed metal ashtray, trinket dish, catch-all is marked: Hand Wrought Los Castillo. It was made in Taxco, Mexico circa the 1950's. Made of brass, copper, and silver. It measures approximately 3" wide; 2-3/4" front to back and 2-1/2" high. A few small spots of oxidation / darkening on the surface. Slight wear to black patina in the eyes but almost all the black, artist applied, decorative patina, is still intact. The black is achieved by using liver of sulfer which changes the silver to black. A caution: If you polish the metal, be careful not to polish the black patina as it is a surface application that would be removed with commercial metal polishes or by using scouring pads such as Brillo, SOS, etc. It is in very good condition. It has been in our collection for over 35 years.
