Apple Juice 2 Deco Bakelite Rhinestone Buckles NOS 1930s not perfect Carved
Here are 2 different Art Deco belt buckles both made of transparent apple juice bakelite, both carved in a similar pattern of bubble circles on the back side, both set with a ring of large square rhinestones. Both test positive for bakelite with Simichrome. Both were old store stock that survived the demolition of an old 1930's-40's New York City dress shop. They were among the many interesting items in a large group of vintage jewelry and women's accessories that I purchased about 30 years ago from the man who rescued them.
- single large circle - 3" diameter - has mossy greenish mottled bakelite prong - the buckle has a few long craze lines and is missing about 5 stones.
- double small circles - each circle is about 1-3/8" in diameter - when connected it measures 2-7/8" wide - I think the clear central cabochons are glass - no crazing - 3 rhinestones missing - each side has a center loop shank so the buckle fasteners could always be removed and they could be used as buttons.
