Lair Kirby's Mill Pottery Stoneware Wine Carafe & 2 Goblets
Here is a vintage stoneware pottery wine set with carafe and 2 tall goblets. They were made by potters Bill & Kathy Lair of Kirby's Mill Pottery in Medford, New Jersey, circa 1971-1986, (that's us). They are wheel thrown and reduction fired in a gas kiln. The carafe has our unique handle designed in 1972 and is signed on the base: The Lairs Medford, N.J. This is an earlier signature. The carafe is 9" high. The goblets are 7.5" high. Stoneware is sturdy, food safe, no leads are used, easy to clean, dishwasher safe. This set with hand painted butterfly flower design was originally sold from our studio sometime between 1971 and 1986. We purchased it recently from a local estate sale so it has been used. There are several chips on the bases that occurred during the making, because, despite the use of kiln wash, the high fired ware (2300 degrees) often partially stuck to the kiln shelf and bits pulled off of the pot when it was taken from the kiln. There is a miniscule flake at the rim of the carafe which has occurred since the firing. They are in very good condition otherwise.
