Casserole with Salt-Pepper- Modern Chartreuse Russel Wright-Russel Wright's wonderful American Modern dinnerware for Steubenville is a design classic, exhibited in many museums and sought after by artists, designers and collectors. It was in production for 20 years, from 1939 until 1959, winning the American Designer's Institute Award for the best ceramic design of 1941. It was astonishingly radical at the time it was produced and it remains incredibly modern even today! Wright named the color of the items we are offering here today Chartreuse Currey... some now call it "seedless grape". It was very popular at the time it was produced, has gone in and out of favor in the past, but is regaining its stature as chartreuse once again becomes a design favorite, adding zest to a whole new color palette when mixed with black, Indian red, lavendar and other new combinations. This sale is for a stick handled casserole and a pair of salt and pepper shakers. Salt and peppers have indented sides for easy comfortable handling. They are approximately 2" square. They have an overall network of fine crackles which was typical of this glaze. They are in extremely good condition. No cracks, chips or stains. The casserole is 8-1/2" in diameter x 11-3/4" at handle x 3-1/2" high. Comfortable to hold. It too, has network of fine crackles, a couple of which are stained in a small area inside the bottom. A tiny pin point sized flake on inside lid recess. And, as you can see in the pictures, there is no lid. It would still make a very handsome serving piece. No cracks or chips. In good used condition with exceptions noted. See our other auctions today for more Russel Wright American Modern chartreuse dishes and serving pieces. 15s10
