PictureFishing Antique Compleat Angler's Lamp Flashlight 1883 Fishing

Here is an unusual antique fishing item... a flashlight of sorts with hook and magnifier. It is called the Compleat Angler's Lamp with patent number 285624. This patent number was granted in the year 1883. The casing is metal with moveable hook, hinged magnifying glass; fixed half dome magnifying lens covering the light bulb; and exterior On/Off toggle switches which can be locked at On or Off. We're not sure what all of these things are for but Izaak Walton's classic fishing book, The Compleat Angler, was about fly fishing... which makes me think the magnifier is to enable the fisherman to tie flies in low light situations.

The lamp measures 4.75" x 2-5/8" x 1-5/8" thick. The interior must have had some oxidation at some time and someone has repainted it brown. We don't know what type of batteries went in it or how things were connected. The switch mechanism works and there is room inside the compartment for someone with electrical knowledge to get something working. There's a clip next to the light which might be to hold an extra light bulb. Exterior has paint loss especially on the back. Small fixed lens has an oval fracture/blemish inside the glass. It's a neat item, historically interesting, a great collectible, and could possibly be made useful again with a little know-how. Purchased from an estate sale.35s7

PictureGolf Doorstop Bronze Sculpture Golf Bags Clubs Joe Phillips

This bronze scuplture (or brass with bronzed patina) features 2 golf bags with clubs, one large pro bag with handle, the other smaller with no handle, both sitting on a base shaped like a green. 8.75" high. Base is 5" x 4.25". It's very heavy. Felted base. The 2 bags may have been connected at one time at a tiny place where the clubs come together and almost touch. There's a small straight line gap there. It isn't visually distracting but I'm mentioning to be thorough.

We purchased it from the estate of Joe Phillips, popular Wilson Sporting Goods figure for more than 50 years, who died at the age of 77, on March 20th, 2006. The family used it as a doorstop. On-line information about him says: "As vice-president of golf promotions, Phillips' responsibilities included negotiating and signing golf professionals on both the PGA and LPGA tours as well as researching and developing new club designs, including Wilson's JP wedge series. The list of touring professionals Phillips worked with reads like a virtual who's who of golf, including Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Patty Berg. A native of Philadelphia and an accomplished saxophonist, Phillips attended Granoff School of Music. He is a past president of Golf Manufacturers and Distributors Association, and former chairman of the National Golf Foundation. In 1984 Wilson Sporting Goods established the Joe Phillips Cup in his honor, with Sarazen the first recipient." Most of his golf related items were donated to the PGA.

PictureGolf Salt Glazed Pottery Jug Jupiter Hills Golf WC Ford 1997

This large salt glazed blue and white pottery pitcher was made by potter Phil Schaltenbrand of the Westerwald Pottery in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, established in 1975. It is signed on the base. Impressed cobalt blue lettering on both sides reads: William Clay Ford Classic and Jupiter Hills 1997. Since WC Ford (Henry Ford's grandson) was one of the 4 founders of the Jupiter Hills Golf Club in Florida, along with Bob Hope, George Fazio (designer) and William Elliot, I presume this jug has something to do with the great game of golf. The jug itself stands 10.5" high, 12.25" to the top of the handle. It is hand thrown on the potter's wheel, brush decorated, banded with cobalt, and fired to stoneware temperatures of 2300 degrees Farenheit. No lead is used in the glaze and so it is safe for food. It is also microwave and dishwasher safe. A small folder with this and other information is included with the pot. It is in excellent, seemingly unused, condition.

Great old leather bag was probably used for ammunition, cartrideg clips. It's divided into 4 long sections with drainage holes at the bottom of each. Shoulder strap. 2 side pouches. One hole has been added by a previous owner. Bag is about 9" x 9" wider at top pouches 13". I haven't tried to clean it with saddle or leather cleaner. It has a musty smell. PicturePoker Art Deco Big Red Black Poker Chip Box Vintage Plastic

Here's a wonderful red and black vintage Art Deco poker chip box. There are still 4 sections of pressed paper chips inside to let us know what use it was intended for but it would make a great jewelry or trinket box for bureau or desk top. 11" x 5.5" x 2.25" high. It has a peculiar smell when held under warm water. It is not made of bakelite, catalin, celluloid, lucite, or acrylic as I am familiar with the smell these plastics have, so it's some other type of vintage plastic. There is a small 1/4" x 1/8" chip on one corner of the red lid. It's in very good condition otherwise. It's still a beauty... great vintage style!

PicturePoker Chip Holder and Old Bakelite Roulette Wheel Gambling

Here are 2 vintage gambling, home gaming, games, or toys for adults.

One is a marbled brown plastic poker chip caddy. It's not full but has a lot of plastic chips. There are 2 openings for decks of cards which are dirty down in the bottom. Under the handle is an inset ivory colored disc with big V logo and a knight in armor. It measures 5" high x almost 11.5" long and 4.25" wide. You can see glue around the bases of the handle. It appears to be in good condition.

The second item is a miniature speckled brown & black bakelite roulette wheel and a felt table cover where you can place your bets. They are both in the bottom section of their original box... the top had just about disintegrated and I threw it away. The wheel measures 7.75" in diameter. There's a tiny little ball. The wheel spins smoothly. It has some scratches on the inside wall and dark marks (aluminum oxidation) at the bottoms of the sections where the balls falls. The table cover has two light rusty marks in one corner and creases at the fold lines which could be ironed on low heat.
