PictureDentist Teaching Tool Vintage Columbia Dentoform Model

This Columbia Dentoform jaw model was a vintage teaching tool for students of dentistry. We purchased it from an estate sale about 25 years ago for our collection of weird medical stuff and bones. There are only 6 teeth (with fillings) and a few extra screws included that were attached to stubs of broken teeth. I understand that they are still being made and possibly more teeth can be acquired for it. 2 of the tooth holes have been filled with some red stuff (don't know what it is) probably to simulate extracted teeth. A name and initials are indented and colored gold on the jaw fronts... maybe the original owner. The jaw parts are each marked with a number: 661 & 662. The hinge works. There's an circular opening and clamp so it could be attached to a pole stand. I just noticed that there are some parts of the pink jaw material broken off on the left side: top at gum line on opening next to front tooth still in place; bottom at gum line on 3 openings next to 2 molars still in place.

PictureGantanol Hoffman La Roche Vintage Drug Ad Kidney Model

Vintage Hoffman La-Roche drug company advertising for Gantanol (sulfamethoxazole) is a tan model of kidneys and bladder mounted on a grayed blue plastic base and stand. Red and blue areas in the left kidney are on a heavy paper attached to the plastic model. 11" high. Base is an oval 7-3/8" x 4.5". Base gives the following info: Roche Laboratories A Division of Hoffman La Roche Nutley N.J. Model made by Advertising Replicas 84 Fifth Avenue New York City. Some scratches on back and underneath as might be expected... but they will not show when displayed. There are 3 little slot openings equidistant from each other around the edge of the right kidney. I think there must have been a top piece that fit into those openings. It was missing when we bought it about 25 years ago. It's in very good condition otherwise.

Gantonol is a sulfonamide antibiotic. It treats some bacterial infections, most commonly of the urinary tract.

PictureInsect Real Scorpion in Lucite Red Glitter Paperweight Scorpio

This scary scorpion is safely encased forever in a half sphere of lucite. It looks great on the background of red glitter! Felted back with paper label reads: "SCORPION Small Species-Most Dangerous. Poisonous Stinger-Armed Tail. Traps Insects with Pinchers. Made in the USA by Maack Co." 2.5" diameter. About 1.25" high. Swell paperweight. Great conversation piece. I think it would make a wonderful pendant for someone born under the sign of Scorpio, or any other witch, warlock, magician, fortune teller, enchantress, wizzard, etc. It's in excellent condition.

PictureMagnfiers 2 Vintage Tripod Magnfiers Boxed 10X Brass Maps Stamps

Here are 2 vintage tripod magnifiers. They are different from each other but they both have the same type of box: Made By W. M. Welch Manufacturing Company Chicago, U.S.A. Both were purchased from the same estate sale. One looks older... it appears to be brass with worn black paint or enamel. It's marked 10X (10 power). The other has a black metal base and black plastic or bakelite eyepiece. It's marked: 2 Federal 2272 and 5-223. It is not as strong a magnifier as the 10X. Both are adjustable...lens piece screws up and down for different focus. The older one only screws part way... it does not go all the way down. The other one works fine.

PictureMedical Model Woman's Reproductive System Ortho Drug Ad

Here is a vintage medical model of a woman's reproductive system given as a promotional item to doctors from Ortho... makers of birth control pills, etc. Marked on base on both sides: Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation Raritan, New Jersey. The model is partially see through for viewing where ovaries, fallopian tubes, etc. would be in relation to the uterus, etc. It's 9" high x 8.5" x 3.5". Made of pink, green, coral color, and clear plastic. There are some light scratches and if you look at it sideways to the light you can see some fine silvery crackles in the flat pink areas as the plastic has aged. Brownish glue on inside under base says it may have had a cardboard bottom at one time but it wasn't there when I purchased it from a liquidation sale 30 years ago. It's in good condition with exceptions noted.

PictureMineral Specimen Green Blk Stone Globe Sphere Malachite

I believe this large beautiful polished mineral sphere may be in part malachite. The exact type and where it came from is a bit of information I have filed away somewhere and cannot find. I bought it for my collection of wonderful orbs about 10 years ago from the rock & gem seller at our favorite outdoor market. It measures about 2.5" in diameter. Colors are mostly green and black with some areas of thin white outlining in some spots. It's a gorgeous natural wonder and in excellent condition. Any crackles and lines are a part of the rock itself or from how it was polished. (display ring not included)

PictureOptical Keystone Stereo Viewer 12 View Eye Test Optical Medical

Here's an unsual vintage optical/medical item which was probably intended for use in schools. The Keystone Eye Comfort and Depth Perception Series consists of: an antique Keystone Stereopticon, or stereo viewer; 12 stereo view cards; an information booklet; and 9 patient cards that read: Keystone CorrectEYEgraph Corrective Recreation For Developing Eye Comfort and Coordination Dr. H.E. Pine Technic, each one with a different cartoon-like drawing probably for each child to identify their own card. These are marked with a 1932 copyright date. The stero view cards have different information on the back of each pertaining to vision correction. The booklet and patient cards are made of an inexpensive paper and have become brittle over the years. They have also yellowed or darkened with time. The booklet has some bug damage. The viewer is in excellent condition and appears to have been rarely used. The views are also in excellent condition. Purchased from an estate sale.

PicturePendulum Lucite Sand Tray w Swinging Pendulum Science Motion Art

Large lucite sand tray with tall arm from which a pendulum swings, drawing lines in the sand. I'm sure the concentric ovals drawn in the sand by the slowing motion of the pendulum support a scientific theory that we learned in school but have forgotten. This is a great conversation piece! Relaxing! Hypnotizing! And lots of fun to play with too. We purchased it from an estate sale. The sand was not so lovely anymore so we have replaced it with white "glow in the dark" sand. Much better!

PictureRefractometer Valentine Vintage Refractometer Microscope Scientific

Here is a vintage scientific instrument: Valentine Refractometer No 726 from Industro-Scientific Company. I don't know what this is used for. I don't know if it works. If the information wasn't printed on the side, I wouldn't even know what it was... but it's a fascinating old instrument.

The whole unit pivots back and forth with a counter balance weight. It's very heavy. 14.5" high. There's a manifold that hooked up to something... we don't know what. The manifold opens and it looks like there are prisms inside on either side of the manifold. There's a moveable adjustable scale with fine measurements and a light for lighting up the measurements... but one of the wires is disconnected from the light. The circular scale above the manifold looks as if it should turn but it doesn't. Possibly needs lubrication. There is oxidation on some of the non-black metal parts and some black enamel is missing from on top of the brass around the manifold.

PictureWhale Vertibra Ancient Fossil Back Bone Aurora NC

Here is the ancient fossilized remains of a whale vertebra, one segment of the backbone. We purchased it from a seller of rocks, minerals, fossils, bones, and other natural wonders. She said it was found in Aurora, North Carolina. She also told us the approximate age and era that it was from. We wrote all of this down once but no longer remember (and can't find) those facts. Its approximate measurements are 4" x 5" x 3". It varies in all directions. It looks a bit porous, like volcanic rock.
