This fabulous fifties designer handbag utilizes many materials and is definitely unique! Tag inside reads: Jerri's Original with a palm tree at one end. (Possibly made in Miami as many of these bags were). The handle and the lid with its golden Paris theme painting (and 4 inset rhinestones) are made of lucite. The frame is painted wood. The interior is covered with a quilted material printed with roses. The exterior is an amazing intricate textural weaving of fine silvery blue threads and taupe ribbon. The gold threads when view through a loupe are actually jute fibers wrapped with tiny gold ribbon or metallic strips. The thicker areas that look like elongated beads, when viewed through a magnifier... believe it or not... appear to be hair wrapped around the threads. I don't know if it's human hair or doll's hair. 11-3/8" long x 5" wide x 3.5" high, not including the handle. Paint on the 4 tiny feet on the underside has worn on the bottom showing that they are lucite also. I would say that the condition is very good although there are some light signs of age and use as would be expected... slight chipping of paint in a few spots on underside edge, some light scuffs on lid, mostly around pivoting lucite closure, and the gold paint on the picture has worn or faded... more so in some spots than others as can be seen in our pictures. It's a great piece. Very unusual and very distinctive.

This great looking beaded evening bag was handmade circa the 1920's or 30's. It's pouch purse style with long fringe is reminiscent of the flapper era. The beads are irridescent carnival glass which sparkles and appears to change color as they move... dark blue, light blue, green, purple, magenta, and coppery rose. The beads are all crocheted or woven into place (you can see the pattern on the interior). There appears to be one fringe loop that has broken... you can see the remnant of thread to indicate that. It could be repaired with a new bead loop or the thread knotted inside where it couldn't be seen. It wouldn't be that noticeable that it's missing. When I purchased the bag from an estate sale about 25 years ago, it didn't have a drawstring... just the metal loops where someone had intending to put it. I added the purple ribbon so I could hang it for display. The bag measures 8.5" long x 5.5" at the widest. It's in very good condition with exceptions noted.

Here are 2 vintage items, a clutch style handbag with a tiny metal memo case, pen, and notepad to carry in the purse. Both were purchased from the same estate sale:

• 1940's vintage clutch purse made with crocheted shell patterns in that black corde' material that was popular at the time. It is a commercially manufactured piece with zipper closure, neat diamond shaped pull tab, black lining. 5' x 7". It is in very good condition.
• 1950's vintage golden metal memo case with ballpoint pen and notepaper. Pen slides into the side openings which keeps the case shut. Back of case is marked: Schering AG Berlin/Bergkamen... probably made in Germany. Notepad inside has just a couple of missing pages. Pen is not working but refills could probably be found for it. 3-3/8" x 2.5". Comes in a black cloth slipcase. Very good condition.

This 1940's vintage big fan shaped purse is made with crocheted fan patterns in that black corde' material that was popular at the time. It is a commercially manufactured piece with a zipper closure and stiffened black satiny lining. It has 2 twisted lucite handles and a large faceted diamond shaped charm attached to the zipper pull. It measures 17.5" at widest part of the fan; 14.5" from top of handle to bottom of bag. The diamond pull charm is 4.5" long. It is in very good condition. The zipper works and it smells clean. There are no broken threads, no rips, no stains. Purchased from an estate sale.

This vintage beaded bag is made of blue carnival glass beads and a circular faux tortoise frame and chain. It was gorgeous once but age has taken its toll, threads have broken and beads have been lost. I thought maybe I'd repair it some day... but I haven't. You might like to repair it, or use the beads for something else, or make your own bag using the frame. The frame is translucent celluloid made to look like tortoise. It has a neat ball clasp on a pivot that fits into a notch in the lid. The chain is made in the typical way with links that are melt fused together. Chain is about 15" long. The frame is 3-3/8" in diameter and 1/2" high with openings to sew the bag to. There's a mirror mounted on the inside of the lid. The silvering has crackled and some has come away from the glass. The hinge is in good condition with no oxidation. Length of bag from tassel to top of lug on frame is 10.5". Purchased from an estate sale many years ago. 25s8

This vintage Caprice Original envelope handbag has stripes of several types of what I believe are snake skins. It has a shiny golden metal short handle or can be used as a shoulder bag with long attached chain. Zipper closure at top. The envelope measures 7.25" x 12.5". Height with handle is 9". Chain is 30" long. There are 2 interior pockets, one of which is green satin lined with zipper. Grey cloth label inside reads: Original By Caprice. There are 2 yellow scales that have curled up ever so slightly along one side. It appears to have been used very little. The interior is very clean and the bag is in very good condition. Here is a soft folding tapestry suitcase or travel bag from Dakota Smith. It's a great looking sachel with Native American or Western theme, both in total appearance and in the individual pictures that make up the tapestry... buffalo, horses, hand prints, face of an Indian chief, Indians on horseback, various figures and pictographs. Zipper pulls are silver with black thunderbirds. It is new with tags. We have removed it from the original plastic protective bag to take photos and measure it. It was purchased from an estate sale along with some other new in the package items that were probably unused gifts. The bag measures approximately 16" x 25" when folded. It opens to 15" high x 25" long x 13" wide. Top has a wide opening with a zipping flap closure. There are smaller compartments in both ends that also have zippers. Two sewn in handles on top have a matching tapestry velcro attaching hand protector that can be fastened around them. There are 2 metal lugs on each end with a longer, separate handle that can be attached if so desired. Six metal feet on base. Tag has blacked out price on back. It is in new, unused condition.

Here's a wonderful, no longer available, vintage bag from Littlearth which was also officially licensed by Harley Davidson. It's made from Harley Davidson hubcabs and recycled rubber from old tire innertubes. Harley Davidson logo in center of bag above velcro closure. It has a short woven cloth handle plus a long detachable shoulder strap with pivoting metal clip at each end... one end of which has the Harley Officially Licensed Logo. The strap is 40" long at the moment and it looks as if it could be 10" longer. The bag measures 19" long x 10" high.

A few light scratches on hubcaps. A pale orangish mark on rubber near strap on left. It was purchased from an estate sale but looks as if it has not been used. It's in very good condition.

It will add character and uniqueness of your bag. Do not over water, plenty of sunlight, and talk to it sometimes, they seem to like that.

This wonderful hard bag is a Helene Original. It is a purple satiny material on the outside, ivory on the inside. The inside of the lid has a large beveled edge mirror. A matching change purse also comes with the bag. Interior lining is stamped in gold: Originals By Helene. Snap closure tab. 4 little gold ball feet. Stiff shaped handles. A dynamite shape! Box measures 3.75" high and 7-7/8" x 6". Height to top of handles is 8". A tiny spot of material is worn at the very tip of closure tap. Under a bright light I can see that the material shows darkening at corners and edges, most noticeable at back edge of lid. It is a great looking bag and appears to have been used very little. The interior is very clean. Purchased from an estate sale.
