This 1940's vintage novelty pin was a souvenir of New Orleans. It consists of 2 hand painted wooden parts... the head of a lady with smiling face, brass hoop earrings, head wrapped in tan cloth stamped in a fold with the words: Souvenir New Orleans. A tiny pair of wooden hand painted maracas tied with blue ribbon was safety pinned through her head wrap so both pieces could be worn as a pin together... or add a pin to her and wear them together but apart. They're a great looking pair! There's a small tear in the cloth on back of her head. White paint in her right eye has chipped off but could be touched up easily. From tip of turban to bottom of chin, she's 3.5" long. The maracas are 1-3/8" long. In very good vintage condition.

Here's a fun 40's vintage pin featuring a cross-legged Swami or Buddha holding a red fortune teller's crystal ball. He hangs from a long scimitar sword blade on which the pin back is located. Sword is 3" long. Fortune teller charm is 1.5" long. A couple of small grayish spots seem to be cast into the plastic... some on back edge and one on left sleeve and above left eye. Here are 2 large faux (not real) cameo pins and a pair of faux cameo earrings with a post for pierced ears. The ladies are similar in appearance. The settings and sizes are different, but all have a goldtone or antiqued goldtone finish. The largest is 2.25" x 1-7/8". It has a pressed metal setting with curleycue design. This vintage cameo pin is a profile portrait of a lady with flowers in her long curly hair and on the curved neckline of her dress. It is made of white pressed glass which is slightly translucent when held to light. The cameo is bezel set into a twisted wire frame. Back is open. Older style C-hook clasp on pin back. Large, politically incorrect, carved and painted wooden native African face pin is 1940's vintage, made during the WWII era, when metal was at a premium and jewelry manufacturers were forced to be creative with the materials they used... often wood and various plastics. Here's a whimsical carved wooden dog pin from the bakelite era... late 1930's through WWII, when all types of materials were used to make highly creative jewelry. Manufacturers had to be inventive as many metals were confiscated by the government for use during the war effort.

This dog was hand carved by an artist craftsman who will, unfortunately, remain unknown. The pin is approximately 2.5" high x 2.5" wide. His painted details show some color loss but he still looks great and could be touched up if so desired. I've just kept him the way I found him. The felt hat is covering a wooden support underneath so it's not at all flimsy and is in very good condition. Old fashioned C clasp pin back is imbedded with prongs into the wood as was the style at that time. I bought him from an estate sale about 25 years ago. He's in very good vintage condition. 40s3

Big bold cross pin by designer Les Bernard is a wonderful combination of antiqued goldtone metal with pierced and incised designs and large glass "stones" resembling tortoise, agate, and topaz. It reminds me of some of the antique Scottish jewelry in both style and color of the stones. 2-3/8" high x 2-1/4" wide. 2-3/4' diagonally. Signed Les Bernard Inc. Safety clasp pin back. It has a loop so it can be worn on a chain as a pendant. One of the prongs on the top striped agate-like stone is missing. It may have never cast properly. This flashy 1960's vintage rhinestone cross pin is goldtone metal with clear pave' set rhinestones and 5 large red cabochons. The shape would probably be considered a cross patonce which is a combination of the shape of the arms on a cross pattee and the fleur-de-lys terminals of a cross fleury. Great looking 1940's lucite feather pin 3.5" long. The front is deeply carved to accent the central rib and add details. A row of rhinestones is inset into the rib. The back is carved with many shallow grooves providing detail lines which are also painted an orangish brown color in the indents. The old C clasp metal pin back is attached to the pin with metal rivets. There is more of the brown color under the pin back than anywhere else and I suspect that there is some actual rust under there. 2 or 3 of the rhinestones are a little darker than the rest but they could always be replaced if so desired. Here's an unusual vintage dress accessory ornament or jewel... I'm not exactly sure of the original intended function... it may be a pair of connected dress clips or some type of cape or belt fastener, but they are definitely unique. A creative person could find a way to wear them in an interesting way. They're a pair of golden key holes linked with a long chain with a golden key at each end. Each key hole has 2 short spikes in the back at top and bottom. Top spikes each have a jargow nib fastener (both different in appearance). There's a large jump ring on the chain that might be for hooking onto one of the spikes. Keyholes are 1-11/16" x 1-5/16". Keys are actual size at 3" long. The chain is about 11" long. Purchased from an estate sale about 20 years ago. They've been in my collection ever since. One key hole has a few light scratches. Slight loss of golden wash in a few spots. In very good condition.

Wonderful 1940's vintage golden hand fur clip has a fancy heart with turquoise glass "stone" dangling from the wrist. She's wearing a ring with tiny red glass "gem" which matches her painted red fingernails. Fur clips were made with sharp long prongs designed to pierce the hide of furs but can also be worn as pins on any heavier material such as would be used on sweaters, jackets, coats, blazers, hats, etc. I suggest using 2 of those protective ends (Jargow nibs), the type used on stick pins, to prevent loss of the clip and to protect yourself from accidental puncture. Hand is 2" wide. Pin measures 2" long from tip of thumb to bottom of heart. Slight wear to red fingernail paint could be easily touched up. Tiny bit of wear to gold wash on underside tip of middle and forefinger where the pin would touch or rub against clothing. In extremely good condition. Purchased from an estate sale about 25 years ago. It has been in my collection since.

Here are 2 wonderful old bleeding heart fur clip duet pins. The hearts are pave' set with rhinestones. They have 2 openings in the metal through which a tiny chain passes, a drop of blood (transparent red bead) hanging from each end. The chain can be moved through the openings allowing you to position the blood drops the way you want. Hearts are 1.25" wide and almost 1.25" high... slightly longer when the blood drops are included. Some rhinestones have a slightly yellowish cast but all are bright and sparkly. Clip hinges are strong and working. There are no makers marks. There is no bar pin to which they attach. They are in very good condition. I purchased them over 30 years ago from an estate sale. They've been in my collection since then.

This wonderful jester pin is handcrafted pewter by Jim and Deborah Chapman... now called The Tin Woodsman Pewter Company located in Eugene Oregon. The jester was inspired by the Mardi Gras. Vintage sterling silver pin features a bare breasted Siamese dancer etched or engraved into the metal and highlighted by a black patina in the background. Here are 2 pins with an ancient theme, the type made as replicas of an artifact for museum shops.

• The first appears to be a pre-Columbian man with semi-brushed golden finish. It has an attached loop in the back so could also be worn as a pendant. 2" high. No maker's mark. Excellent condition.

Here are 2 different 1940's vintage novelty pins, 5 and dime treasures made to cheer folks up during the war years which have become a fun collectible today. I had acquired a small grouping of them, but they were hard to find... probably because they were thought to have no value by successive generations and were just tossed out. These 2 have a sports theme. The first is a pair of 2 celluloid footballs chained together as was a popular style in the forties. Each football is about 7/8" long. The second is a lady ice skater hanging from a banner bar pin. 2.75" long x 2" wide at the banner. Both have pin backs secured by pronging them into the plastic back. Both are in very good condition. Here are 2 vintage summery looking pins, possibly souvenirs from someone's long ago vacation to a tropical paradise like Hawaii or Florida. The first is a goldtone palm tree, 2-3/8" high. The second is a silvery metal scallop shell with what appears to be a reverse painted swordfish, sailfish, marlin ? leaping out of the ocean. This cabochon shaped half sphere is bezel set and mounted on the shell. I think it's glass because you can see tiny little bubbles when looking through a magnifier. There's a dark dot of color loss in the white sky but is in good condition otherwise. 1.25" high.

Fabulous 40's pirate face pin is press molded ceramic with a gold lustre glaze.
