Picture5 Mechanical Pencils Wearever Jefferson R Esterbrook ++

Here are 5 vintage mechanical pencils. All were purchased many years ago from estate sales and flea markets. They've been in my collection for a long time. All are marked on the pocket clip; 4 on the clip itself. The black one is marked Esterbrook on the top end where the clip attaches and also has the name impressed in the plastic below the silver waist band, running parallel to it: R. Esterbrook & Co. They are as follows:

  • Commander - marbled blue and black, impressed with name: Horace Anderson - 5", turns but has no lead.
  • Jefferson - marbled orange and yellow - 5", has lead and is working although I'm not sure if it's working properly as it rolls the lead out but not back (you have to push the lead back) and there's a space between the end cap and the body. Some loss of plating on tip. A few scratches around pocket clip.
  • R. Esterbrook & Co - black - 4.75", has lead and is working. Has a series of short horizontal indents on the top section opposite side from the clip.
  • Wearever - stripes of marbled honey, amber with black - 5.75", has lead and is working. Darkening to metal at tip.
  • Wings - black ends with marbled pearly browns in between - 5", has lead and is working although I'm not sure if it's working properly as it rolls the lead out but not back (you have to push the lead back)

They're in good condition with exceptions noted next to each one above.

PictureElegant Retractable Goldtone Mechanical Pencil Pin Vintage

This vintage mechanical pencil has been made into an elegant retractable pin that ladies could wear on purse or lapel... a great way to keep that writing implement from walking away. Hammered golden circle disc. Slim pencil on retractable cord. Back is marked: PAT K & McD Inc Roseland N.J. (I have other similar devices made by this company. One of them is marked with the company's full name: Ketcham & McDonald. They were also, or at some time, located in East Orange, N.J.) The pin clasp has a safety bar that pushes up against the pin shank so you can't loose it. It's marked: Ketchall... probably a composite of Ketcham and catch all. 3-7/8" long. Pencil is 2-15/16" long. Cord is 17" long and can be locked into place by pulling slightly to one side. Release to allow it to retract. Slight wear to some high spots on hammered surface design on circle pin. In very good condition otherwise. A handy device. Also great for hanging a watch from... or glasses. PictureLetter Opener Samurai Sword Knife Letter Opener Riverside Mfg NJ Ad

Here is a vintage advertising letter opener made to look like a Japanese Samurai sword in case. Case is marked: Riverside Mfg. Co. of N. J. Inc. Fruit and Vegetable Packages with old fashioned style phone number: BElmont 5-1810 - Moorestown, N. J. 10-5/8" long. One of the 2 ivory colored pieces where the case meets stays on the handle end when you open it. I think it should stay attached to the case end (should be one one each side).
