PictureCeramics Monthly Mags 10 Bound Issues 1974 Pottery Art

Here are all 10 issues of Ceramics Monthly magazine for 1974... January through June (which is the "over the summer" issue) complete through December. Each December issue has an index of the year's articles listed by subject which we'll photograph so you can read some of them. They are bound but removeable in a Ceramic Monthly binder. There are great articles with lots of info about potters; articles by potters on glazing, forming, and firing techniques; pictures from various shows, articles on pottery history including famous pioneers; and lots of pictures of artist's work from the traditional and functional to purely aesthetic sculptural works and everything in-between. We subscribed to CM during our 14 year career as studio potters... These were stored in our studio for more than 30 years, so even though I've vacuumed and dusted them, there's apt to be a little clay dust left in the crevices. Most are in good condition. Apparently we cut out a few pictures back then... I noticed that February is missing one page 27/28 which was a short article about Ruth Duckworth; May has a 1/6 pg picture cut out of page 22 a form by Susan Meyers; and November has 3/4 page picture cut out of page 17 from the "In Praise of Hands" article. All else appears to be intact and in good condition.

PictureCeramics Monthly Mags 10 Bound Issues 1977 Pottery Art

Here are all 10 issues of Ceramics Monthly magazine for 1977... January through June (which is the "over the summer" issue) complete through December. Each December issue has an index of the year's articles listed by subject. They are bound but removeable in a Ceramic Monthly binder. There are great articles with lots of info about potters, techniques, shows, history. Most of the articles are by potters, known and unknown. There are pictures of work from great favorites. We subscribed to CM during our 14 year career as studio potters... These were stored in our studio for almost 30 years, so even though I've vacuumed and dusted them, there's apt to be a little clay dust left in the crevices. A short shallow area along the bottom edge of some pages in October and November issue must have gotten wet sometime long ago, but it has just left a pale stain that doesn't reach as far as the pictures and articles. Nothing is stuck together or in bad condition. April issue has various summer workshops circled in ink. With those small exceptions, all are in good condition; all info and pictures are intact. I'm including a short list of some of the features or subjects of the articles in each issue. There's too much great stuff to list it all:

PicturePin-up Vintage 1940's Print Blonde Garters Stockings

Vintage 1940's era pin-up print portrays a smiling blonde in a skin tight slinky red dress sitting on a blue hassock. She holds one leg high in the air as she place a garter over her stockings. One garter lies on the floor. Bottom corner is marked with copyright mark: FAS Made in U.S.A. Behind her back is part of an oval mark that looks like it might have a word in it... artist's name? But I can't make it out and it doesn't look like a complete mark. 17" x 12" There is some damage. A long scratch/crease might not show up in the photo but it runs from about 3" above her wrists to about 4" below the knee on her raised leg. The upper portion of the hot pink background including her face and upper arms has a lot of little raised pin-head sized bumps... what would result if pressure had been applied from above with a sprinkling of sand or gravel below. Two parallel creases across bottom right corner. Purchased from an estate sale many years ago.

PicturePostcard - 1885 Photo Card Windsor Cottages Spring Lake Beach NJ

Photograph of Windsor Cottages in Spring Lake Beach, New Jersey, is antique advertising for summer resort rentals from the 1885 season. The photo is 2.5" x 4" The card is 3.5" x 4-3/8". Card and photo are stained... almost looks like coffee or tea spilled on it. Darkest stain at roof peak on foreground cottage. If you look through a magnifier, you can see 13 people posing for the photo... all dressed in Victorian clothing. Light rectangle in lower right corner appears to have some words in the plate, but they are very faint and I can't make them out with a loupe. Although not in the best condition, it's still a neat photo advertising card! This item was acquired from an estate sale in a large collection of vintage summer travel brochures, most of which have been previously sold

PictureTRUE STORY Mag 1930 Perfume-Vantines-Cannert Cover-Dove

True Story magazine, April 1930, features cover art by well known portrait artist and illustrator Jules Cannert (born Paris 1890, came to US in 1906). It is a portrait of actress Billie Dove (Lillian Bohny 1903-1997), star of silent film and Zeigfield Follies, known as the "American Beauty". This magazine includes 14 vintage "true stories" of romance. mystery, etc., other articles, and a lot of swell advertisements. I'm partial to (and bought this mag for) the the perfume, compact, and powder ads from Vantines, Houbigant, Tre-Jur, Djer Kiss, April Showers, Princess Pat, etc. but there are also great ads from Planters Peanuts, Ford cars, and various cigarette companies including Spud!

11.75" x 8.5". Paper, especially on cover is brittle. Cover corners and edges have little tears and pieces missing. Spine end is worn and most words are worn away. Crease at bottom middle of first few pages is torn on some and on cover up from bottom about 1.5". Worn white spot on cover near Billie Dove's right eye. Corner tips of some pages (especially toward front of magazine) are torn or missing. But most pages are in good condition and if you collect and/or frame vintage advertising, there's a lot of good stuff in here to work with.
