Tydol Gas 40s Aviation Stamp Book Service Station Promo

Here's a promotional item given away by Tydol Flying A gas stations in 1940. This one is stamped on the back page with the participating service station in Waldwick, New Jersey, at Cres. & Wycoff Avenues. It's a 20 page booklet called America Aloft... a concise history of aviation beginning with the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk and ending with a look at the future... the Roadable Autogiro and the giant luxury Flagships to be built by Douglas Aircraft (to hold 42 passengers, with 4 engines and airtight compartments). The booklet was compiled and edited by Stanley Washburn, Jr. and illustrated with 48 collectible poster stamps created by Edward A. Wilson. The stamps were issued in groups of 3 over a period of 16 weeks beginning on May 16th, 1940. They were given by Tydol-Veedol service stations in the 13 Northeastern states. The boy (I assume) who owned this booklet collected over 2 thirds of the stamps and glued all of his extras onto the front cover. 7-7/8" x 5-5/8". Pages all have a wrinkle at bottom spine end. One stamp on front cover has come unglued and is folded over. All else is in good condition. The stamps are good looking and colorful. An interesting glimpse into the past.
