Scarf Jungle Cats w/Pets Lion Tiger Zebra Scarf Gant Gaither

Here is a vintage scarf by Gant Gaither for Baar & Beards. It is covered with whimsical jungle cats... lions, tigers, leopards, and huge domestic kitties as well. Some have interesting pets. Some are wearing jewelry and big hats. Some are sitting on pillows. Some are in love. There are zebras, dogs, butterflies and flowers. Signed in lower right corner: Gant Gaither. Cloth label reads: Gant Gaither for Baar & Beards, Inc. 30 per cent silk 70 per cent rayon. Dry Clean Only. Hand rolled hem. 27" square. Purchased from the estate of a world traveler. Very good condition... no tears, no pulls, no holes, no wear, no stains.

Gant Gaither, died on February 16, 2004, and according to the New York Time obituary, he was best known as a Broadway producer and founder of the Grace Kelly Foundation, but he was also an artist and "the creator of Zoophisticates, whimsical images that reflected the daily visits he once made to the Central Park Zoo and his childhood love of animals. Zoophisticates are paintings of animals in action, gently mocking the antics of humans. The originals were exhibited internationally and found their way into the private collections of famous people, and the designs were imprinted on signed designer scarves."
