FREDERIC MIZEN-Native American Print-NAVAJO SHEPHERDESS- Atchison Topeka Santa Fe Railroad 1954 Calendar Art

This item is for a nicely framed vintage print with a Native American subject by Frederic Mizen. The print is vintage reproduction of one of his paintings. His paintings belong to a group that were purchased over the years, beginning in 1903, by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad and reproduced for their advertising purposes. In 1907, they began to use the images on their yearly calendars to promote tourism to the Southwest. The ATS&F, now called Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, has continued to acquire such original artworks and presently owns one of the largest collections of art depicting images of the Southwest. The vintage calendars are collected by railroad enthusiasts.

The print we're offering here, Navajo Shepherdess, was used on the 1954 calendar. This print may be from the original calendar... I don't know. It was purchased at an estate sale, along with "Indian Chant" from 1953, which we are offering in another of our auctions this week. They are both framed in these wonderful wormwood frames which certainly enhance the rustic Western look. Sealed on the back with brown paper. 11-1/2" x 13-1/8" Screw eyes with picture wire on back for hanging. In very good condition. 35s10
