PictureBox Vintage Gallo Copper Box w Chile Coat of Arms + Motto

Here is an old copper box with the National Coat of Arms of Chile raised in the center of the lid. The motto: Por La Razon O La Fuerza (By Reason or Force), used on Chilean currency since 1818, is inscribed on the banner. Original interpretation of the motto was that reason, or the law, was primary, but if violated, reason would be upheld with force. A bill has been pending in the Chilean Senate since 2004 to change the motto to the less aggressive sounding "By the force of reason". This box is marked on base with the maker's mark: A rooster and the words Gallo M. M. Chile. 4" x 3" x 1-7/8" high. The copper had darkened with time and the lid had black stuff on it from being stored in an old garage. When I washed it, some of the dark oxidation came off too so I polished the top but not the rest of the box. There is a tiny dent and still some spotting on the lid. In good condition otherwise.12s6

PictureColliers 1915 Book Photographs Drawings WWI World War 1

Official Photographers Accompanying Each Army Collected and Arraged By Francis J. Reynolds and C.W. Taylor. Drawings by R. Caton Woodville, Felix Schwormstaedt, Henry Reuterdahl, Richard Assmann, Willy Stower, W. Gause, Frederic De Haenen, Norman Wilkinson, H.W. Koekkoek, Richard A. Mann, Willy Moralt, and Ernest Fuhr. There are some excellent pictures of submarines, zeppelins, motorcycles, armored cars, and ships.

The cover has some fading and some darker spots in the gray area probably from handling. The corners, ends of spine and edges show light wear. Front end paper has 2 spots with air under them, where they weren't completely glued to the boards. First and last end paper pages show browning corresponding to the printed image on the title page and last page. The title page also shows some browning transfer along bottom edge. Bottom corner of this page has a crease. Last page has a 1" tear side middle at the thumb turning point. All the other pages are in very good condition. Most of the condition issues are due to age, manufacturing technique, and paper choice. I would say the book has been well cared for and is in very good condition... especially when considering it's age of 93 years.25s6

PictureDaimon Telko Trio Rd/Grn Flashlight Vintage German WWII

Flashlight Here is an unusual vintage flashlight with magnifier lens plus red and green filters that slide over the light. It is called the Daimon Telko Trio. Online research says this was a German manufactured flashlight made in the late 1930's, and used by the German military during World War 2. The hinged case is metal with leather strap handle on back; fixed half dome magnifying lens covering the light bulb; exterior On/Off toggle switches which can be locked at On or Off: slide levers in front to move either red or green filters into place; interior clip for extra bulb. It measures 4.5" x 2-5/8" x 1.75" at the thickest point. We don't know what type of batteries went in it or how things were connected. The switch mechanism works. Exterior shows wear to black finish as can be seen in the photos. There's a dab if hardened glue or clear varnish on the hinge side. Some small scratches on glass dome at apex. It's a neat old item, historically interesting, a great collectible, and could possibly be made useful again with a little know-how. Purchased from an estate sale.

PictureOld Leather Ammo Cartridge Clip Bag Gun War Militar

Great old leather bag was probably used for ammunition, cartrideg clips. It's divided into 4 long sections with drainage holes at the bottom of each. Shoulder strap. 2 side pouches. Interesting stud and slit closures for easy slide opening remind me of old horse gear. Longest strap possiblity is 52" with 14 holes at one inch intervals for shortening. One hole has been added by a previous owner. Bag is about 9" x 9" wider at top pouches 13". I haven't tried to clean it with saddle or leather cleaner. It has a musty smell. Nice aged patina but still flexible and useful.
