Here are 2 unusual metal Christmas ornaments. One is a ball made of heavy curly wire, about 4" in diameter, with a ring for attaching a hook. The 2nd is a 3 dimensional silver star with a burst of smaller stars shooting from the center. Front area of little stars is gold in color. • Hand blown glass ball is ridged and indented with a "pumpkin" look to the shape. The ridge lines look silvery through the applied glass cap and loop. 2.25" diameter. 3.75" long. Purchased about 25 years ago.

Here is a group of vintage Christmas decorations. There are 4 green bottle brush trees with glittery white snow flake chips (like plaster and mica). Some have more snow than others. There is some hairy snow too in spots which has darkened a bit with age. They're all about 6.75" high with red wooden pot bases. They all stand on their own. They're all in good vintage condition.

There are 10 Christmas tree bulb covers shaped like miniature buildings with 5 metal clips to hold them in place. The buildings are red, white, blue, and green plastic. There are:

• 2 houses (Tudor and Victorian) blue & white
• 1 small town church - green - base of steeple has melted a bit and leans slightly to the left.
• 2 cathedrals (same shape) white & green - tower tips still have flashing from casting method but could be cut away with a sharp knife.

Here are 6 little clown or harlequin or court jester ornaments. They're 6" long with cloth bodies and plastic heads, hands, and feet. Assorted colors. Pom-poms on pointed hats. 4 have ruffled lace collars... 2 of which have lost their elastic. 2 have no collars. I've picked these up at various estate sales between 1985 and 1995. Here are 7 vintage mirrored Christmas ornaments.

• 4 flat stars mirrored on both side. 2-7/8" diameter. These are the oldest... probably about 25 years old. Some glue that has yellowed over the years can be seen along some edges of the mirrors. They are in very good condition otherwise.
• 2 mirrored pears have imbedded gray stems with silver thread hangers and silvery cloth leaves. 2.25" high. They're in very good condition.

Here are two 1960's vintage glass Christmas ornaments typical of the unusual people ornaments made in Italy at that time.

• The first is a large 6" lady with added leaf wings that probably make her an angel of some sort. She has a painted face and other bits of added cloth finery... a leaf collar, glitter tinsel collar and hat with feathers and a ribbon sash with bells or doodads. The color scheme is white and gold. Her cloth parts are the worse for age or lack of care. Some loss of paint and areas with what appears to be glue... at wrists... where something may have been attached once. Dark crackle lines at bottom suggest something may have been attached here too... like spun hair... could have been a cloud at the bottom? I don't know. I purchased her from an estate sale long ago in this condition... couldn't resist her ancient charms.
• The second is the head of a Mexican man wearing a large red sombrero. Nicely painted face with mustache. Hat has glitter designs with some loss of red at a couple of points and a little crackling. In good condition otherwise. 2.5" long x 2.25" wide.

This wonderful faceted crystal ball came from an antique chandelier. It's 1-3/8" in diameter and hangs below a faceted octagonal crystal gem making the total length 2.25". We've been hanging it on our Christmas tree for about 30 years. It makes a wonderful ornament and would also look great in a sunny window. The facets create prismatic effects which make rainbows all over the walls. It's also neat to look through... refracts the images like a teleidescope. It's in excellent condition.

Here are 3 vintage blown glass Christmas ornaments. Two are icicles, hollow with glass loop. Both are 4.75" long. Both were purchased from the Philadelphia Art Museum gift shop sometime in the 1970's. I don't remember the name of the artist. Here's is a vintage Christmas nativity scene purchased recently from an estate sale. It includes:

• 8 paper mache' figures: Mary & Joseph, 3 wise men, a shepherd with one sheep at his feet, a donkey and a cow. Joseph is marked Made in Germany. The others are marked Western Germany. The tallest figure is 5" high. Cardboard sealer piece on base has come unglued from the wiseman in the green robe but it is included, not lost. Paint on Joseph (brown) and kneeling wise man (purple) is crackled and peeling. A little is peeling on donkey at neck. All are in good condition otherwise.
• Wooden stable or creche and manger. The stable measures 11.75" high. It's base is 15.5" wide x 5.5" deep. The base is some type of pressed composition board which is worn at corners and edges. Back wall has a foil Star of Bethlehem. Right side wall has a music box attached through an opening in the roof. It doesn't work as the spring is broken. The manger is also wood with a few bits of dried evergreen leaves inside.
• Baby Jesus and the 5 sheep are plastic. At first I thought the sheep were done very realistically... they looked shaggy and dirty from foraging through the muddy hills. After we photographed them, I realized they really are dirty and need a bath or good scrubbing with a brush. But the dirt shows the details in their wool up nicely. They may have been swiped and used to fill in as farm animals in some child's muddy backyard play area. They're in good condition otherwise.
• Bag of wooden shavings. Great to use for straw in the stable... and it won't be susceptible to bugs or rot.

Here are 2 vintage Christmas items. One is a glass Christmas ornament for the tree top or end of branch. It's a long hollow spire measuring 10". It's silver with red, blue and white designs, plus added white textured snow. There's a paper label affixed to the bottom section that reads: Germany. We purchased it from an estate sale in this vintage Shiny Brite box which pictures the same type of ornament on the lid but says Made in Western Germany on the side. The original price tag is on the box: 29 cents from Binks. Both ornament and box are in very good condition.

The other is a Noma box: "Strings of Color-Light All Year 'Round For All Celebrations" copyrighted 1929, with pictures of not only the expected lights on the Christmas tree but also the unexpected lights held aloft by Uncle Same on the 4th of July, and those surrounding a black cat, jack-o-lantern, and witchy skeleton thing on Halloween. I guess they wanted to find as many occasions as possible to sell their lights... but we know that only the Christmas thing ever really caught on :-) There are no lights in the box but the 1933-1935 box is neat to find in such good condition. Even the inside is interesting. Top inside "Noma Decorative Outfits with Mazda Lamps" and it goes on to give all the good things you should know, guarantee, and directions with the bad things you should know ie if one bulb goes out the rest won't light either... now it will take you half an hour to try a new bulb in every socket and what if that one doesn't work either? The NRA Eagle stamped inside the box shows that Noma supported the National Recovery Act... in force from 1933 through 1935 when the Supreme Court found it to be unconstitutional. This is a neat item... especially if you have the old lights but no box to display them in. 11" x 6" x 1.5". Back 2 corner seams on lid are torn along the seam; inside has some roughness where the lights were put in and out of their proper slots but it's really in very good condition especially when considering that it's probably 73-75 years old.

This Waterford Holiday Heirlooms figural Sleeping Santa teapot is a great Christmas item. A cute little elf has read Santa a bedtime story and he has fallen asleep under his red and green plaid blanket with his alarm clock and a plate of cookies by his side, a spotted dalmation dog asleep on the floor. Cat sleeps on top of covers on Santa's belly and is actually the finial for the lid. The teapot comes in the original red Waterford cylindrical box with fitted styrofoam interior for protection during shipping. It has a folder card with Waterford Limited Edition information, Waterford Wedgwood location, care instructions, etc. It has original red ribbon with Waterford Holiday Heirlooms Limited Edition Seal with Seahorse logo affixed to side of teapot with removable tape. Here's an unusual Halloween novelty item. I think it's a witch... or maybe it's a ghost dressed like a witch... or maybe it's the ghostly apparition of an old crone. The body is a white clay pipe with a face painted on the underside of the bowl. The bonnet and dress are made from crepe paper. Maybe it's a vintage handmade party favor or a novelty purchased from a small candy store, variety store, or 5 & 10 cent store. Here is a 1940's vintage paper mache' jack o'lantern. He's about 4.25" high (not including the wire handle), 5" wide, and 4.5" front to back. He is in very good condition... no tears or holes... but he may have been repainted by a former owner. The surface has a semi-matt finish but it has less of that "egg carton" appearance to the surface than what I remember (of course I could be wrong) and there is no variation in the color, no green. This nifty red horned devil mask was part of a vintage Mummer's costume. It's a rubbery flexible material, probably latex, reinforced with burlap at the neck. (I've stuffed it with paper to show it's shape) Accented with gold and white paint and fine green glitter. Horn span is about 15". We purchased it along with others from the same group at a flea market about 10 years ago. Time is taking it's toll... paint is cracking and flaking on horns, teeth. Latex is cracking in few spots... at back neck slit, tip of lower jaw, and under left ear shows a dime sized area of white underneath. Surface of latex is developing white spots... not sure what that is. It's still a fun piece for that room full of horrors and Halloween.

This vintage Menorah is chrome plated with a very heavy black glass octagonal base. A Star of David supports the center candle holder. It's 9.25" high. The base measures 4" from side to side. It was covered with wax when I purchased it from an estate sale. I've cleaned most of it off but have noticed a few spots in the crevices that I missed. It's in very good condition.

Here are 11 vintage holiday postcards: 6 Easter, 2 Christmas, 2 New Year's and 1 Thanksgiving. Two have undivided backs, one postmarked 1904, one dated 1910. Most are circa 1909-1914, but one is postmarked 1926 and one 1936. All came from one estate sale. All are postally sent except one. Most have have worn or bumped corners and areas of browning on backs. Other condition details will be included next to each. They are as follows:

• Easter with padded cloth chick pulling a golden egg in cart full of flowers; embossed; undivided back; hand dated March 27, 1910. It is addressed with a stamp but has no postmark. The card is thick, made with 2 pieces of cardstock together. Cloth on chick is worn on high spots at unravelling at beak. A few small spots of gold loss on chick's toes and cart wheel.
• Easter Greetings - Farm scene with hens & chicks in egg shaped window; marked: Printed in Saxony No. 693; Embossed; postmarked 1909
• Easter Greetings - Pussy willows with brook scene; marked: Printed in Germany GKG logo 285; postmarked 1911; tan stains; loss of top layer of paper at all corners
• With Loving Easter Wishes - Embossed; Ocean scene with sailboat & rowboat on beach with silver cross and violets; marked Printed in Germany with AMB or MAB logo; postmarked 1911.
• A Joyous Easter - Chick head and forget-me-nots bursting through an envelope; textured paper with more cloth-like feel; marked Series 82E; postmarked 1916
• Easter Greetings in red flocking with mushrooms; marked: Serie 2109 Printed in Germany; addressed but postally unsent.
• Christmas - With Best Wishes for A Merry Christmas from Elsie (name filled in with handwritting); Undivided back; marked: This Side is Exclusively for the Address; postmarked 1904. Round white at top edge is paper loss from surface; wrinkle in middle right.
• Christmas Greetings with choir, church window, poinsettias - Embossed; marked: Made in U.S.A. W-34; postmarked 1931
• New Year's - With Best New Year Wishes with small winter scene and roses; Embosssed; marked: Printed in Germany; postmark date is not legible
• New Year's Wishes with poem and winter scene - marked: Made in U.S.A.; postmarked 1926; light brown stains on front and white areas of bug damage on back
• Thanksgiving Day Is... with poem and scene with cottage - marked: Publisher G.K. Prince, Buffalo, N.Y. All rights reserved 464 and Individuality is the touch that tells Prince Message Cards; postmarked 1914.
