1 Old Silver Turquoise Zuni Indian Wide Bracelet MahootyThis beautiful old Zuni Indian wide cuff bracelet has fancy sculpted edges, feather motifs at each end, 9 natural chunks of turquoise set in zig-zag toothed bezels interspersed with half dome spheres. It apears to be silver although it isn't marked as to metal content. It's signed in large script inside: Eugene Mahooty and I think it says Zuni below that. I bought it several years ago from a woman whose mother had a collection of Native American jewelry that she had purchased over the years. I really liked this piece which I kept for myself... but I've gradually been selling my treasures... a person just can't keep it all :-) The bracelet is 1.5" wide, 5 and 5/16" interior circumference with 1.75" opening. One stone is cracked. It's the first on bottom left, 2nd photo from the top. It isn't loose or coming apart... just wanted you to see that it's there. The bracelet is in very good condition.

2 Bizarre Vintage Folk Art Shrunken Head Fetish w TeethHere are 2 strange and unusual folk art sculptures, fetishes, made to look like shrunken heads. They are made from gourds, clay, coconut hair, beans, and glass. One has what appears to be real teeth... the other has lips sewn together in the manner of shrunken heads. The one with hair and sewn lips uses a whole gourd. It measures about 8" from top of hair to bottom of chin. The other is made from a gourd sliced in half. 4.75" x 4" and has a braided leather loop on the back for hanging. They are not signed. I don't know who made them. We bought them about 25-30 years ago from an estate sale and considered them a unique and wonderful find to add to our collection of heads. They are in very good condition.

Beaded Folk Art Snakes Heads Primitive Africa VintageHere's a wonderful piece of beaded folk art from Africa. It may have originally been a belt or ceremonial banner. It's 47" long with an additional 2" in the loop at the end from which we hung it on our wall. It's about 5" wide. Images are a bird, 2 snakes, an alligator, and 2 human? heads or masks with horns. The sides are decorated with cowry shells, some have blue dye or paint on them; 4th from top on the right is missing; 3 or 4 shells have a piece broken from them. White beads are more sparse in the bottom section... some may have broken and fallen off. The old brown material on which it is made has some frayed areas along the edges and a few places that look like they've possibly been repaired or restitched. The mask-like faces are neat with eyes and noses beaded on top othe beading giving them some thickness and dimension. We purchased this piece about 20 years ago from a gallery that featured primitive arts and crafts. It's a great looking piece that we've enjoyed owning and displaying with our collection.

Box Unusual Fluted Brass Box Vintage Folk Tramp Trench ArtHere's a neat old brass box that seems to be fabricated by hand as the joints are soldered and the sides are pieced. Top, front and back are fluted with repeating indented scalloped furrows and raised ridges... the indents are about the size used on pen trays. It makes a great pattern. The box measures 7-7/8" x 4.75" x 2" high. Piano hinges. One side has a number 35 stamped into the lid and also into the base, one above the other. There are old felt circles on the base. I haven't tried to polish it because some folks prefer the aged patina. It's in very good condition. Purchased from an estate sale.

Handwoven Dyed Grass Octagon Jewel Basket w Lid VintageHere's a vintage handwoven dyed grass basket. It's octagonal in shape with a fitted lid. The lid has flat braided handled. Great for jewelry, trinkets or treasures, hankies, etc. Some grass is natural color, some has been dyed red or green. 3" high x approximately 5.75" wide. Sides have no stiffening or upright support... it's a fairly soft box... so they aren't stiff and geometric. They have a bit of "give" to them. When the lid is in place it keeps them where they should be. It's very pretty and has a nice smell. When I asked the 70 something woman who was selling it where it came from or who made it... she said... goodness knows... I bought it so long ago I can't remember. It's in very good condition.

Ivory, Shoo Fly Swisher Bone Ivory Folk Art Primitive TribalInteresting vintage tribal fly swisher (not swatter) is made of hand carved bone ivory and probably horse or other animal hair... it's very coarse. Primitive people saw the animals successfully shooing flys with their tails and borrowed some of their tools to help rid themselves of the annoying pests. My first sight of one of these unusual tools was in college when a creative writing teacher brought one in for us to write about. He had acquired it when visiting Africa... I don't remember what area it came from. I purchased this one years later at an estate auction. Unfortunately, the hair is coming out of the weaving that holds it in place and it had already lost a bit when I acquired it. The hair is curved in the position you see in the photos. I've never tried to straighten it. Possibly it could be dampened with water and placed bewtween paper with weights to "set it" straight again. The carved handle is quite nice... 7" long x about an inch at the widest point. This would be a great piece to display with other primitive and folk art treasures.

Vintage Rag Rug Rooster & Hen Pictorial Folk Art FarmThis old folk art rag rug depicts a wonderful barnyard couple... a rooster and a hen on a pale green grassy field surrounded by a border of curving vines with fruit and leaves on a dark brown background. The birds are black and white barred with multicolor heads, various shades of brown on wings. It has a cloth binding around the hem/edge on underside and 3 plastic rings have been sewn along the top edge on back from which it was hung on the wall. It measures 34" x 24". It's really a neat rug! We purchased it from a long time country collector who was relocating to a much smaller living space and was liquidating the majority of her collection. She had displayed it on the wall so it hasn't been used on the floor for quite some time. It might need to be cleaned, but it is in very good condition and smells clean... no noticeable wear, no rips, no stains. 60s14
