Here's a big 1940's era compact made from carved lucite. The top has a mirror on the outside and one on the inside surrounded by a carved wreath of leaves. The bottom has a lathed circular cut out section where the powder would go. Both sections are held together with a metal hinge. It's 4" square and 1/2" thick. The clasp is a tiny rod of amber colored lucite in the base that fits inside an opening in the top... but it has probably shrunk over the years and it no longer fits tight enough to hold them together so there's about a 1/16" opening between top and bottom because they don't come flush together. Someone with a little know-how could probably make a new little piece that would fit and hold. There's a thin ring of lucite going around the edge of the mirrors. On the inside mirror, part of it has come off and part of it has pulled away from the edge but is still attached. The mirrors show a few scratches, hazing and variation in the surface from age. It's still an interesting compact... different from most of them that are metal. Originally purchased from an estate sale. It has been in my collection for many years.

Wonderful vintage Art Deco double compartment compact by Coty may have never been used except as a purse mirror as both pressed rouge and powder are intact. There is no puff on the powder side but the rouge side has the original puff marked Coty. Surface of the rouge pat also reads Coty in raised letters. Both sides of the compact are also marked. Mirrors are polished metal. 1-7/8" square. Loss of shine around edge inside rouge side probably because it was exposed to air and has oxidized whereas the interior wasn't exposed to the air and hasn't lost it's shine. Some light scratches on mirrored surfaces and also on outside, more noticeable on the rouge side, which would most likely have been the bottom of the compact, the side it was set down on more often. From an estate sale.

Wonderful compact style double purse mirror and matching lipstick case also with mirror are glass enameled metal featuring a "travel to Paris France" theme with Eiffel Tower on both and blue travel bag suitcase on the compact mirror. Lipstick case is still in the original box from Saks 5th Avenue with $24.99 price tag on the underside and is in excellent condition. The compact mirror no longer has the box and as a result has a few light scratches on the underside but it has never been used and is in very good condition otherwise. They are un-used gifts that were purchased from an estate sale.

Beautiful 40's vintage Volupte compact is covered with golden stars and enameled in 2 tones of heavenly blue. The outer band of arrows suggests motion. The wide flat disc shape makes me think of Saturn's rings, a comet or a spinning space ship. It still has it's original felt slip case but there is no puff. Brushed finish on underside. It has been used but is not worn. Mirror inside has pale dark marks in the silvering along upper left edge. A couple of scratches and a patch of dots of oxidation under the name Volupte U.S.A. on the inner powder cover. But basically in very good condition. Has been in my collection of vintage vanity items for the past 30 years.
