PictureButterscotch Bakelite Telechron Clock Art Deco Vintage

Great looking marbled butterscotch bakelite clock case still holds the workings of an old Art Deco Telechron clock with one skyscraper copper hand, no glass face, and no cord left either. The case is a beauty though and could be used for a picture frame, jewelry making, or other creative endeavors. Maybe you're a clock wizzard and can fix it up, get it working (I don't know that it doesn't work... just that it has no cord). Case has 2 old chips, one on each side of upper back edge. Surface of bakelite is very shiny and lusterous. 4.5" high x 4.5" wide x 2.5" deep. 60s10

PictureDali Melting Glass Clock on Wrought Iron Stand Vintage

Here's a great looking glass and wrought iron clock with the melting watch design made famous by the Salvadore Dali Surrealist painting Persistence of Memory. The glass face is frosted with curvy Roman numeral markers. The curvy metal sides, shape behind glass face, and heavy base are black wrought iron with a rough textured surface. 16" high x 12" wide. Base is 10" x 4". Clock face is 12" x 8" at the highest and widest points. Clock face is marked at bottom edge: Arti & Mestieri Design. The clock is working and keeping accurate time. It takes 1 AA battery which will be included. There's a silvered or white coating behind the face that is wearing away at the edges. Second hand is a little bent. Iron has some spots of oxidation at bottom curve. It's in very good condition with those exceptions. Purchased from an estate sale about 10 years ago. We had another similar clock before we bought this one. The people we bought it from told us they bought it from the Dali Museum in Florida. I can't remember if the markings were the same or not and don't have any history or provenance for this one.95s18

PictureDrum Majorette Baton Motion Clock United Works! Vintage

This vintage drum majorette motion clock was made by the United Clock Company of Brooklyn, New York. The clock is working and keeping accurate time. The motion mechanism is also working but the original baton wasn't with it when we purchased it from an estate sale about 25 years ago. Bill has made a good replacement baton that works quite well, turns easily with the mechanism and gives the right look. The clock case is white metal with a golden finish. It's 11.5" high x 9" wide x 4" deep. Back is marked: Pat Pen in the casting. Clock is marked with a patent number for the clock mechanism: 2,140,365 (1938). The golden finish has oxidation/clouding to the surface. We gently buffed some of the high spots with a rouge cloth but didn't want to wear any of the original finish away so the decision of how much to polish or clean will be up to the new owner. The face is in excellent condition. It's a neat old item!

PictureMarbled Green Catalin Phenolic Clock Case Stock Jewelry

Here's a vintage clock case with no clock inside... a big wonderful chunk of green phenolic marbled with brown and yellow. Base is one inch thick x 7-7/8" long. It's 2.25" at the widest and 1-5/8" at the narrowest. The clock area is 4.25" high; 4.25" in diameter outside; 3-1/8" diameter inside; 1.75" deep. The base was drilled, probably to hold a figure or pen holder. Unfortunately, it has been chipped around that opening and appears to have been glued back in place. On back edge there's 1/4" shallow flake at one end of base and 5 pin head and smaller dot flakes on outside curved edge of clock part. The surface is quite shiny and would be great for jewelry making, radio knobs, or other artistic project. It does not test positive for bakelite with the scrubbing bubbles test so is probably Catalin or other phenolic that was more stable and doesn't respond to that test. I always thought I'd make something with it but never have. It's been in my collection since we purchased it from an estate sale about 30 years ago.

In response to some questions, we've done a red hot pin test to the underside of the base, inside the machined opening where it would not show. The pin does not pierce the plastic more than a tiny dot on the surface which means it is a thermosetting plastic, in the same chemical category as bakelite, catalin, and other phenolic resins. It will not become soft with heat which means (as also evidenced by the drilled and machined openings) it can be ground, shaped, and polished with tools without burning or melting. As to its actual chemical composition or brand name, I can't tell you as I don't know.

PictureStainless Steel Advertising Clock Machine Age Vintage

This wonderful vintage wall clock is sleek and ultra modern... advertising for a new machine age product... stainless steel. The red, black, white, gray, and navy blue face reads: Stainless Sales Corporation New York - Chicago - Newark STAINLESS STEELS. Domed glass. 18" in diameter. Sides are 3.75" deep. Dome of glass is about 1.5" high. Structure of clock is mottled gray enamel on metal. Synchron works. Built by Lackner, Cinncinati, Ohio. Last patent on the clock mechanism is 2298373 (1942). The clock is in working order. It keeps good time and is quiet. There is no easy way to set the time. There's a little hole at the bottom right of the mechanism where there must have been a knob and gear to set the time but it is missing. You can turn that gear at the bottom right with your hand but it's difficult. The easiest thing is to wait until the time is the same as what the clock face says and plug it in. That's what we did. Inside under the glass has some dirt but it could be taken apart and cleaned by removing the outer ring. Purchased from an estate sale many years ago.

PictureSwiza Sheffield 8 Day Alarm Clock Paris St Sign Vintage

This vintage figural 8 day wind-up alarm clock was made by Swiza Sheffield and is so marked on the face. It was made to resemble a Paris, France, street sign, lamp post, town clock... the cross piece was marked: Champs Elysees... which is the Paris street that goes from the Arc d'Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. Champs is almost completely worn away but the Elysees can still be seen. The clock is not working. The spring was wound tight when we purchased it from an estate sale which means the spring is not broken and probably only needs cleaning and oiling. The alarm works and has a nice bell sound. 7.75" high. Face is 2.25" in diameter. Some darkening and/or wear to surface plating but it has a nice antiqued patina and still has a great look.
