1 Bakelite Earrings Gum Drop Polka Dots 40s Vintage StockThese great looking polka-dot earrings are yellow bakelite with multi-colored gum drop polka dots. They are yummy! Each dot shows a different color and/or style... marbled or solid. I bought them about 15 years ago from a man in New York who assembled them from vintage bracelet stock. The disc is 1-1/2" in diameter. The entire earring from top of golden ball is 2.5" long. They are on posts for pierced ears. The 2 dotted discs are similar but not exactly alike. A tiny pin head sized indent in the surface occurred during the casting of the bakelite. A short scratch connected to one of the top openings occurred during the drilling of the discs when they were manufactured back in the 1940's. These are mentioned for accuracy of description. The earrings have been well cared for and are in very good condtition.

- 1940's wooden heart charm pendant. 2" x 1-7/8". Chain is 24" long and was added by me. Good condition
- 1960's enameled heart charm pendant with gold bumps. 2" x 1.5". Chain is 22" and was added by me. Very good condition.
- Victoria's Secret clip back heart earrings are red glass enameled with rhinestones on goldtone. Probably circa 1990's. 1.25" x 1.25". Marked inside back. Clips are strong and tight. Excellent condition.
- 2 red heart pins marked: Hallmark Cards are probably circa 1980's - 1990's. 1.25" x 1-3/8". Plastic. Some very light scratches on surface. Good condition.
- This recent heart pin is locket style with a door on jump rings that opens to reveal photo of your choice. Door reads: I LOVE... and the picture you put inside shows who it is. White arrow moves to let door open/shut. Thin red vacuum formed molded plastic. 1.75" x 1-5/8". I purchased this pin from an eBay vendor about 5 years ago for my heart collection. It was advertised as being vintage celluloid but is definitely not. It was probably made the year I bought it. It's in excellent condition.

Art Deco Big Red Black Poker Chip Box Vintage PlasticHere's a wonderful red and black vintage Art Deco poker chip box. There are still 4 sections of pressed paper chips inside to let us know what use it was intended for but it would make a great jewelry or trinket box for bureau or desk top. 11" x 5.5" x 2.25" high. It has a peculiar smell when held under warm water. It is not made of bakelite, catalin, celluloid, lucite, or acrylic as I am familiar with the smell these plastics have, so it's some other type of vintage plastic. There is a small 1/4" x 1/8" chip on one corner of the red lid. It's in very good condition otherwise. It's still a beauty... great vintage style!

Bangle Bracelet Bakelite Yellow Green 1940's VintageThis vintage bakelite bracelet from the 1930's - 1940's could be described as a pale olive or a greened yellow in color. The interior is more greenish... probably closer to the original color. It's 3/4" wide, 7.5" inner circumference, 2.5 interior diameter. It tests positive for bakelite with the scrubbing bubbles test. In very good condition. Purchased from an estate sale about 30 years ago. 18s3

Buckle Bakelite Connector Glass Beads Necklace Vintage This wonderful necklace was made with vintage glass beads and a 1940's vintage carved bakelite double leaf shaped buckle as decorative connector. It looks great when worn in the front... like a jazzy jeweled bow tie. The beads are translucent blue and lavender with clear glass spacer beads. Unusual shapes in the front... cubes, winged circles, planet-like spheroids, with smaller rounds for comfort in the back. The buckle tests positive for bakelite with scrubbing bubbles and "sniff" tests. Metal findings are imbedded in the back. Buckle is 5" wide x 1-1/8" high. Each half is 2.5" wide. Total length of necklace is 17.25". It lies very nicely on the neck and is comfortable to wear. Everything is in very good condition. I've had this piece for about 30 years. It's a head turner! You'll get lots of compliments when you where it.

Buckle Red White Black Bakelite Buckle 40's Vintage AccessoryWonderful 1930's-40's vintage belt buckle is red, white, and black laminated slices of bakelite riveted to a steel or nickel silver backing with belt loops. It may have been red, white and blue at one time, as patriotic themes were in vogue during the war years and as all of us bakelite lovers know, blue was one of those elusive colors that vanished quickly with age and oxidation. The white slices are translucent in some areas and look like cracked ice... but this interesting effect is probably due to age and the instability of the material... although it really looks great! 1-13/16" wide x 1.5" high. In very good condition with exeptions noted. Purchased from an estate sale.

Maybe you're a clock wizzard and can fix it up, get it working (I don't know that it doesn't work... just that it has no cord). Case has 2 old chips, one on each side of upper back edge. Buttons 19 Bakelite Buttons Rings Ornaments Cookie Carved MoreHere are 19 vintage (1930's - 1940's) bakelite items ranging from shades of yellow to shades of green and brown. All were purchased from estate sales and liquidation sales over 25 years ago. I've used some in my art creations over the years but have many left which I will probably never get around to using so I am passing them along for others to use in their creative endeavors. All are in good condition with exceptions if any noted next to each. They are as follows:
- 2 bell shaped buttons or charms are dark translucent green with gold flecks... one has a ring wire going through the opening in the top, the other does not.
- 1 large carved yellow ochre cone shaped doo-dad has a drilled threaded opening in the bottom flat end. It may have been a handle. It's 1" diameter at the base and 1.75" high.
- 1 butterscotch button with carved and drilled self shank 1.25" long
- 1 laminated shaped yellow and green button with imbedded metal shank... underside shows orange brown colored glue that has squeezed out between the layers
- 1 green button with impressed black horses has molded self shank
- 1 green and yellow "cookie" button with imbedded metal shank is 1-1/8" square
- 8 rings 1.25" outer diameter ranging in color from pale apple juice yellow to black. The black one has 3 light color circle indents on one side
- 2 carved 3 lobe butterscotch buttons. One has an imbedded metal shank. The other has a drilled hole in the back center but no shank and no evidence that one was ever there.
- 1 large slightly oval ring is flat on back. It looks translucent greenish with gold crackles and flecks. I think the green is a coating of some kind on the back. I think the gold specks are imbedded... the gold crackles are damage from dampness. A group of the pieces I bought from the basement of an old dress shop had these crackles. They would break apart if I squeezed them hard enough. I squeezed this one real hard and it seems quite sturdy so I've included it since it really looks neat. 2.5" diameter.
- 1 butterscotch pencil point shaped thing is hollow at the flat end with 2 openings for sewing through. I think it may have been a sash end tip. It has the same crackle but I've squeezed it with no problems... and it's a weird thing, just fun to have if you collect this stuff. 1-7/8" long.

Carved Lucite Big Compact Mirror 1940's Vintage VanityHere's a big 1940's era compact made from carved lucite. The top has a mirror on the outside and one on the inside surrounded by a carved wreath of leaves. The bottom has a lathed circular cut out section where the powder would go. Both sections are held together with a metal hinge. It's 4" square and 1/2" thick. The clasp is a tiny rod of amber colored lucite in the base that fits inside an opening in the top... but it has probably shrunk over the years and it no longer fits tight enough to hold them together so there's about a 1/16" opening between top and bottom because they don't come flush together. Someone with a little know-how could probably make a new little piece that would fit and hold. There's a thin ring of lucite going around the edge of the mirrors. On the inside mirror, part of it has come off and part of it has pulled away from the edge but is still attached. The mirrors show a few scratches, hazing and variation in the surface from age. It's still an interesting compact... different from most of them that are metal. Originally purchased from an estate sale. It has been in my collection for many years.

It's 1" wide, 2.5" inside diameter, and 7-15/16" inside circumference. There are only light signs of use... a few very light scratches as might be expected and 2 very tiny white marks on the surface that may be in the bakelite itself. Celluloid 2 Unusual Marble Swirl GITS Shoehorns Vintage CelluloidHere are 2 vintage shoehorns marked GITS. The plastic is very pretty, swirled, speckled, marbled... if you're into vintage plastics, these are unusual. I've had them for about 25 years. I believe they're made of celluloid as they smelled a bit like camphor when I washed them. One is yellow with white and brown... probably made to resemble amber and/or tortoise as was often done with celluloid... making it imitate another more valuable materials. This one is in very good condition. The other is red-orange with yellow, white, and a little black. There's a bit of an indentation along one side where it appears to have melted somewhat. There are also scratches on the back. Both were originally purchased from an estate sale.

Celluloid 3 Celluloid & Rhinestone Hat Ornaments 1930's VintageHere are 3 celluloid and rhinestone hat or clothing ornaments from the 1930's. All were rescued from the basement storage of a dress shop in New York City when the building was demolished many years ago. I purchased boxes of old fashion industry embellishments from that building (buttons, buckles, sew-on ornaments, etc). They are old stock, never sold and never used, although some have suffered a little from aging and exposure to dampness, air, etc. These 3 are as follows:
- Long black U shape is set with rhinestones with 2 dark blue hand painted dots between each one. 4.75" long. Curved to fit the curve of a hat with 3 small openings (1 at bottom of U, 1 at each end) for sewing through. I suspect the black was painted on also as there are 3 or 4 little dots near the tip of one leg that look white. It's in very good condition.
- Green curly ended ornament has inset rhinestones and incised ivory colored lines which says the green color is on the surface. 2.25" x 1.5". This one has no pierced openings to sew through as I imagine they could sew over the center bars. It too is curved to fit against the crown of a curved hat. Slight yellowing to one of the curled ends. It's in very good condition otherwise.
- Burgundy colored A shape has inset rhinestones and incised white lines indicting that the color was applied to the surface. If you look closely you'll see that the edges have been beveled by hand filing and then the color applied over top of that work. Three sew through openings... 1 at each corner. 1-7/8" x 1-7/8". It's in very good condition.

Celluloid Lady in Sun Bonnet Hand Painted Vintage Celluloid PinI believe this vintage pin is made of celluloid. I didn't want to risk damaging the painting by running warm water over it to try to get a "sniff" of the camphor. Metal pin back with old style C clasp is affixed with a strap of black celluloid. The paint, especially on face and back of hat may have faded/or worn with age but it still looks great and is in very good condition. 2.25" x 1-3/8". Purchased from an estate sale many years ago.

Couroc Bakelite Cotton Flower Bowls Danish Modern EamesHere is a wonderful set of 3 vintage Couroc bowls with inlaid wood and brass pictures of cottom flowers. 7.5" in diameter x 1.25" high. There are no labels left on them, but those of you familiar with Couroc of Monterey will recognize the pattern and the style. Couroc made all their items of bakelite (phenolic resin) with inlaid wood, brass, rhinestones, mosaic bits and other materials. The earlier labels said: "Unique COUROC Products Are cherished gifts because of their variety and beauty in design. Hand inlaid by master craftsmen, shells, coins, woods and metals are fused into Couroc's famous satin black material which is impervious to alcohol, boiling water, and cigarette burns. By Couroc of Monterey California." Labels on newer Couroc items say it is made of phenolic, and indeed it does test positive for bakelite (phenolic) with the scrubbing bubbles test. They recommend washing with mild soap and water. From experience I can tell you that the metals polish up nicely with "Never Dull". Bakelite can be polished somewhat with "Never Dull" also. Bakelite collectors recommend polishing it with Simichrome.
These bowls were purchased from an estate sale. One has been used. It has some scratches on the inside. The other 2 show little if any wear and are in extremely good condition. One of them has a few white marks on the underside. This is an unusual subject which I've never seen before on any Couroc items. So nice to find a set of 3!!

Lucite 20 Giant Lucite Grapes Pearly Peach Red & Amber VintageHere are 20 lucite or acrylic balls with attached metal findings for hanging them or wiring them together: 9 translucent red, 10 marbled pearlescent peach, and 1 amber. You could make your own clusters of grapes with them but they would also be great for Christmas tree ornaments, ornaments at the hem edge of drapes or curtains, maybe hung in the window as sun catchers, shade pulls, or any other artistic project. They are about 1-5/8" in diameter. They have some bits of glue in spots from the metal being glued into the lucite during their making. The red ones have some scratches... noticeable because they are translucent... but they are are in good condition otherwise. Purchased from an estate sale many years ago. Lucite & Roses Rare Obelisk Night Light 1940's VintageThis is the best piece of all the 1940's lucite and roses items! It's a night light... a tall triagular obelisk with 3 actual roses and 3 more roses reflected in the optical illusions caused by the triangle sides. It's 8.25" tall. The triangle is attached to a ridged base with 4 tiny feet and an opening for a tiny clip-in light. The old one was missing when I bought this piece from an estate sale about 30 years ago but we've provided a newer light with cord that can be used in its place. The roses are reverse carved in the lucite making hollow rose shaped openings which are later filled a colored material. There are a few imperfections due to the aging of the material and heat of the light... crackles in the feet, crackles in the light bulb opening and one crackle in the obelisk in bottom center closest to the opening for the bulb. The bulb cavity has some white pigment inside it... probably remnants of whatever held the original fixture in place. It still looks neat... these crackles don't interfere with the roses. It also looks great unlit standing sentinel in a display with others of its type.

An inch of ungound interior shows what the color probably was originally. The colors on the exterior and inner carved area are darker as they have oxidized over the years. It's strange that the one part hasn't changed color which probably means that someone always kept a napkin or paper or something in it so that air never got to that part. It's in very good condition. From an estate sale. 18s3

Novelty 2 Pins 40's Vintage Footballs Ice Skater SportsHere are 2 different 1940's vintage novelty pins, 5 and dime treasures made to cheer folks up during the war years which have become a fun collectible today. I had acquired a small grouping of them, but they were hard to find... probably because they were thought to have no value by successive generations and were just tossed out. These 2 have a sports theme. The first is a pair of 2 celluloid footballs chained together as was a popular style in the forties. Each football is about 7/8" long. The second is a lady ice skater hanging from a banner bar pin. 2.75" long x 2" wide at the banner. Both have pin backs secured by pronging them into the plastic back. Both are in very good condition. Both were purchased from an antique auction about 25 years ago.

Pair Thick Butterscotch Bakelite Hexagons Stock JewelryHere's a great pair of marbled butterscotch bakelite hexagons, thick and yummy. 2" side to side. 2-1/4" point to point. A little over a 1/2" thick. Drilled center hole is 1/2" in diameter. I think they must have come from vanity lamps as there are slightly indented rings around the hole where another part was probably tightly clamped with a central threaded screw rod. It's also shinier on the surface there. One hex has a couple of polished chips at the inner edge. The other hex has a tiny chip at the outer edge. In good condition otherwise. Great for jewelry making, radio knobs, and other arty projects... or you may want to rebuild some lamps.

Pendant- Big Yellow BAKELITE EGG PENDANT Old Sewing?Vintage yellow bakelite egg pendant is 1-7/8" long with a 1/4" hole drilled through it. I puchased it at an estate sale about 20 years ago. I don't know if it was intended to be a pendant or if it was originally a darning egg. I used to wear it on a leather cord. An unusual and fun piece! Passes both hot water "sniff test" and scrubbing bubbles test for bakelite. In very good condition.

They all have a threaded metal interior for the screw and the screw is included with each. They measure 1-7/8" square x 1-3/16" deep.
