PictureGoebel Red Dog Perfume Lamp with glass eyes

Fantastic Early Goebel Orange Dog Perfume Lamp is made of translucent porcelain and has wonderful glass eyes. Both the dog and his eyes have a warm, magical glow when the light is turned on. He has a circle of holes in the top of his head for the heat of the bulb to escape so that he won't crack. There is a small reservoir on the back of his neck where perfume was placed. The heat of the lamp warmed the perfume and gently spread the desired fragrance into the air. Perfume lamps were popular in the 20's and 30's and came in many shapes and sizes... a forerunner of the air freshener, but infinitely more romantic! This little creature measures 4-1/2" high, 4" at the widest point and 5-1/4" from front to back. The marks on one foot are the broad incised crown, ST256 is incised under the crown and the letter B. is handwritten in black underglaze stain. Dep. is incised on the other foot. Germany is stamped in black stain near that, on the edge. All of the marks can be seen in the photos. The light works. The socket is held in place inside with a little metal arm that goes through the body and is fastened on the outside with a little white knob. The cord has an old style, blimp shaped, in-line bakelite switch. There are a few little flakes in the orange glaze on his right hind thigh (these can be seen in the photos - bottom area is the flakes, top area is reflected light in the photo), one at the base near that and a tiny one at his front right elbow. There is a manufacturing flaw, a little rough spot on the top center of his back where something (a bit of brick) fell into the molten glaze during the firing. There are a couple of little pin holes in the glaze that also occurred in the manufacturing process. These don't take away... just want to let you know they are there. He is a little treasure that could be the perfect highlight in a romantic or exotic boudoir!

Marked: Hull Art U.S.A. - 2 - 8 1/2 with hand incised number 41. There's a chip on the bottom of the foot (3/8" x 3/16") which cannot be seen when the vase is sitting on table or shelf. Signed on the base. 10.25" long x 3" high x 4" wide. A pin hole at rim of center ball occurred during the firing process. PictureJASBA 16" Art Pottery Vase Germany Textured WoW Glaze Vintage

This huge vase has a fantastic textured art pottery glaze... the white over glaze has pulled away from the black underglaze leaving deep fissures. In between the deep black lines are smaller finer lines. It's really wonderful! Interior is black. Almost 16" high... 15.75". 8" at the widest point. Base reads GERMANY 585140 in raised lettering. An added mark in tiny letters of Western Germany appears to have been screened on later because it looks like a lacquer over the clay. This was probably done for exporting reasons. Possibly the piece was made before Western Germany existed (during WWII or for a short time afterward) and then that had to be added afterwards to meet new regulations. We purchased it from an antique store. There are 2 tiny dings (1/8" and smaller) at the bottom edge. It is in excellent condition otherwise.

PictureMcCoy- 17" McCoy Jardiniere Pedestal Lily Iris Grapes Vintage

Wonderful large vintage McCoy pottery pedestal was made to display a big planter or jardiniere. There are clusters of grapes leaves and vines in the central section breaking into a basketweave or trellis pattern towards the bottom indented ridge with iris or lily flowers growing along the bottom ground. 17" high. Base is 11.5" in diameter. Top is 9.75" in diamter with indented interior for the planter measuring 8" in diamater. Fluid brown and green majolica glaze has run down the pot and onto the kiln shelf causing several chips on the bottom edge when it was broken loose. The glaze was ground down and made smooth at the factory. Top is scratched from the planter and has some whitish marks from water. These of course would be covered if you sit another planter or vase on it. A fine network of crackles does not take away from the beauty of the glaze. In very good condition with exceptions noted.

PictureModern Art Pottery Black & White Spiral Globe Vase 60's

Great looking modern style art pottery vase is classic globe shape with narrow neck. Black matt glaze has an intricate slip trailed white spiral band that divides and spirals back on itself, visually divided the globe into 3 sections with neat zig-zag patterns. 9-3/8" high. 8" in diameter at the widest point. There's a pin head sized pin hole in the glaze about a half inch from the top spiral and a small spot in the rim that looks like it may have cracked before or during the firing and then filled in with glaze. It occurred during the manufacturing and isn't anything bad or distracting... just wanted to let you know for the sake of accuracy in description. 3 table protecting stick-ons were put on the base by the original owner. Purchased from an estate sale several years ago. It's in very good condition.

PictureNorth Carolina Jugtown Seagrove Big Vintage Pottery Jug

Here's a great old hand thrown jug in a primitive style with applied handle and glaze color typical of vintage Jugtown and Seagrove North Carolina potteries. It's 11.25" high x 9.25" at the belly. The glaze has pooled and looks darker in all the throwing rings which gives it great character as do the bits of kiln junk stuck in the glaze on top of the handle and elsewhere. You can see the potter's tool mark in the side where it was lifted wet off of the wheel. Thick ridge at foot was also for easier movement when the clay was still wet. The foot ring is rough where it was pulled from the kiln shelf. There are a number of spots on rim, belly and handle where the pot has suffered loss of glaze, whether due to being hit, dropped, use, or storage, it's hard to know. One side has a small round opening which appears to have been made after the firing as there is no glaze on the interior edge. It's a wonderful piece to look at despite its hard life... having the same type of beauty as Korean tea bowls... coming primarily from the lack of pretense, humble origins, repetitious production... voice of the common man (just an old potter's point of view : -)

PictureRako 1930 Signed RAKO Czech Art Pottery Monkey Trinket Tray

Here's a wonderful monkey trinket tray in that bright Fiesta orange glaze that was so popular in the 1930's. Signed with impressed mark on underside: RAKO 1930. The Rako factory was located in Rakovnik, Bohemia. 5.5" long x 3.75" wide x 2.5" high. The clay is very heavy. The glaze is very thick and runny. You can see where it was factory ground on the base. There is a darkened hairline that runs around the bottom circle enclosed by the monkeys arms and through the center of that circle. It doesn't come through to the underside. It may have been used as an ashtray by previous owners... the heat may have caused the hairline. It would be a great trinket tray on the bureau or catch-all on a desk. Purchased from an estate sale.

There are a group of pale crackles in the white area around the rim, a pale yellowish "water line" about 1.5" down and a gray hairline running down from the rim for about .75" which can be seen on the outside too but it looks lighter outside because it's in a crevice of the horn. It's dirty down inside the base area and needs a proper bath. Base is marked: 1053 Redwing U.S.A. It's 5.5" high x 7-3/8" long x 4.5" wide. It will look beautiful filled with flowers! PictureSalt Glazed Pottery Jug Jupiter Hills Golf WC Ford 1997

This large salt glazed blue and white pottery pitcher was made by potter Phil Schaltenbrand of the Westerwald Pottery in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, established in 1975. It is signed on the base. Impressed cobalt blue lettering on both sides reads: William Clay Ford Classic and Jupiter Hills 1997. Since WC Ford (Henry Ford's grandson) was one of the 4 founders of the Jupiter Hills Golf Club in Florida, along with Bob Hope, George Fazio (designer) and William Elliot, I presume this jug has something to do with the great game of golf. The jug itself stands 10.5" high, 12.25" to the top of the handle. It is hand thrown on the potter's wheel, brush decorated, banded with cobalt, and fired to stoneware temperatures of 2300 degrees Farenheit. No lead is used in the glaze and so it is safe for food. It is also microwave and dishwasher safe. A small folder with this and other information is included with the pot. It is in excellent, seemingly unused, condition.
