Picture1 Jorge Machold Artist 1970 Aquatint Painting Germany Art

This wonderful painting was created by German artist Jorge Machold in 1971. We purchased it from the Golden Door Gallery in New Hope, Pa. sometime in the 70's. We believe they told us it was an aquatint. It looks like a watercolor but we've read that it's very difficult to tell a watercolor from an aquatint. It is framed and measures 21.25" x 20.25". The art measures 13.25" x 12". It is signed with a less legible signature... J M.. '70. The back has a label from the framer: Frame Decor Morristown, NJ. The Roman numeral IV is hand lettered in pencil on the back. It is in very good condition. Machold was born in 1940. He is the author of a book on designing art in plastics called: Plastiken, Materialbilder, Zeichnungen (Plastics - Material Pictures - Designs) He continues to produce art using various materials in his Berlin studio.

The art measures 14.5" x 13.25". It's signed J Machold 71. The back has a label from the framer: Frame Decor Morristown, NJ. The Roman numeral II is hand lettered in pencil on the back. There are a few little specs under the glass and it could probably benefit from being cleaned and re-framed. It is in very good condition. Machold was born in 1940. Picture3 Miniature Painting 19th Century Portrait of Boy Antique

This is an amazing 19th century superbly realistic portrait of a young boy. The incredible detail, tiny hare's fur brush strokes and miniscule dots, give color and form to the facial features, background shadows, and texture to the hair and jacket. The top right hand corner shows the artist's brush strokes that were probably made to determine the correct color mixture before applying it to the portrait. The darkened oval suggests it must have been framed at one time. That area measures 7" x 5-1/8". The entire piece is 8.5" x 6-5/8". Outside of the oval has some darkened areas, a dab of brown paint, worn corners, and a few little bug trails. None of these will show, of course, if it is matted and framed properly. There are a few darkened spots inside the oval in the background above and below the boy. They aren't very distracting and can possibly be cropped closer with a smaller oval matt to eleiminate them entirely from view. It is unsigned but whoever painted it was extremely skilled and must have had many years of experience painting portraits. We purchased it from an estate sale with a group of items all dating to the 1800's.

PictureBossons SARACEN 1960 Chalkware Arab Head w Original Tag

We've purchased 3 vintage Bossons chalkware models from an estate sale. All are heads or busts, all have the same theme. They are Arab or desert warriors. All are brightly colored with incredibly realistic details, especially in the skin which looks lined and weathered. This one is entitled: SARACEN. He still has the original hang tag. Impressed mark in red area underneath: Saracen 1960 Bossons England. Back is also impressed with marks: Bossons World Copyright Reserved. Numbers and slashes are also inscribed in the back. 7" high x 4.5" wide (approximate) x 2.75" deep (sticks out from wall that far). Imbedded metal bar for hanging. A group of small areas of surface wear show up as white spots. They don't appear to be chips, but places where the paint has flaked off... the most noticeable is on his nose. There's one spot on his right mustache and a group on the ornament in his turban and the top of those feathers. They could be touched up if you're an artistic type or have some paints around the house. He still looks great! A very dramatic piece... and the grouping looks super together. If you bid on more than one, we can combine shipping.

PictureBronze Blackamoor Lady Head Wall Sculpture 50's Vintage

Beautiful 1950's head of a sleeping African or blackamoor lady is a cast bronze sculpture which can be displayed on the wall. 4" X 2.75" X 1.5" Some scratched lines in the back that may be maker's marks or artists initials are difficult to decipher. It's easier to see them in the photos than on the piece itself. There's also a raised area that looks like it might be a B. Made by the lost wax casting method... you can see the casting sprues on the back. One has been drilled for wall hanging. It also looks great sitting on a shelf or sitting in a display case of treasures. Textured hair area. Dark overall patina or paint has a chipped or worn a little in a couple of spots... around right eyebrow, tip of nose. Lighter patina on eyebrows, ears, lips for contrast. A tiny gold earring hoop hangs from a hole in the ear. It was there when we purchased it from an estate sale about 25 years ago. In very good condition.

PictureCampy COCKATOO Paint By Number PBN Painting 50's Kitsch

We have discovered 2 vintage fifties paint by number paintings, both painted and signed by the same person. This auction is for the wonderful salmon pink cockatoo that you see in the photos below. It sits in a flowering fruit tree... and probably once looked out over a fifties rec room decorated in "tropical paradise" style. Some corner tips are a little worn and others have a hole. I think they must have been "hung" without a frame, just nails throught the corners. Slight curve to bottom right corner. These could all be made invisible with a frame. In very good condition otherwise. 20" long x 15-7/8" wide.

PictureDiana Hunter Goddess Nude Chalkware 1920's Vintage Art

Here's a vintage chalk sculpture of the goddess Diana from the Art Deco and/or flapper era when bobbed hair was all the rage. Diana was the Roman name for the Greek Goddess Artemis, Moon Maiden, goddess of wild animals and the hunt, protector of the wilderness and children, fertility deity. Daughter of Leto (a female Titan) and Zeus (ruler of the gods). Her twin brother was Apollo. Unfortunately the sculpture has some damage. Her left hand is missing. There is no bow and arrow... they were probably made from wood and string or perhaps metal wire. She has a wire armature under the chalk and the hand support is still there although bent downward at the moment. There is a hairline crack around her neck. Her nose, chin and little toe on left foot are chipped. There are spots where the finish is flaking or worn. We bought her in this condition about 30 years ago at an estate sale. I always thought I'd get around to restoring her one day, but I have too many projects and too little room, so I'm passing her along to someone else who may love her "as is" or restore her to her former glory. 8" high x 14" long x 3-5/8" deep.

PictureNude Female Greek Goddess Vintage Naked Lady Sculpture

Here's a graceful nude wearing only a necklace and sandals, standing against a tree trunk (probably done that way to make the sculpture stronger). She's 13" tall. Base is 3.75" diameter. There's a hand written signature indented into the surface at back of the base. I think it says Sculpture House. There are a couple of small dots of white showing around the base and another spot at the base which looks a little more coppery than gold... probably a more recent touch up. It has probably been re-painted sometime in the past. Short thin red line near center of left breast. She's in very good condition and looks great. There are no cracks and no large chips.

PictureOil Painting Signed Widney 1951 Pretty Woman with Shawl

This original oil painting is signed Widney 51 in the lower right hand corner. The painting is a portrait of a pretty dark haired woman in a shawl dappled with sunlight. It is painted on canvas. There are some crackles in the paint along a straight line about an inch from the bottom of the painting. There are a couple of small bits of missing paint here also. You can see 2 in the hand and one to your left of the hand. In the back you can see there are nail holes along the edges of the canvas where it was once attached to canvas stretchers or a wooden frame. It has been removed from the frame by a previous owner who has folded the edges over a piece of thick cardboard in order to put it in this frame. See our photos. The frame is 17.75" x 14.75". For the most part, the painting is in very good condition. Purchased from an estate sale.

PictureReligious Madonna & Child Large Vintage Chalkware Wall Sculpture

This large vintage chalkware wall sculpture is an unusual interpretation of Mary and Baby Jesus. They are blonde and blue eyed with raised patterned pearlized ivory robes, a popular finish for sculptures in the 1920's through 1940's Art Deco era. Approximately " long. 11" wide. Will protrude from wall for 5.25. There is some wear to finish along bottom front edge and 2 chips... one is large... 1.5" x 1"... but could probably be repaired if you have the know-how. Wear to flesh color on baby's nose could also be touched up. We purchased with these flaws from an estate sale many years ago. I couldn't resist... their faces are so beautiful despite the damage. The rest is in very good condition. There's an imbedded wire loop for hanging on the back.

PictureSilhouette Portraits 2 Cut Boys 1935 Signed Deco Frame

These vintage cut silhouette portraits of 2 young boys facing each other are signed by the artist and dated 1935. The boys appear to be brothers. They are presented in a wooden Art Deco frame typical of the times. The signature is fancy and stylized... difficult to make out... it might be Gante or Stante. Any info you'd like to share about the creator would be greatly appreciated. Frame is 5-7/8" x 7-3/4". It has some wear to the silver paint in some high spots. Silhouettes are in very good condition. PictureVenus di Milo Nude Goddess Vintage 28" Rubber Sculpture

Here is a vintage rendition of the ancient Greek sculpture, Aphrodite of Milos, better known as Venus di Milo. (Venus was the Roman name for the the Greek goddess Aphrodite.) She is hollow, a casting made from rubber or similar substance... the type used for some early mannequins. She's almost 28" high and would have been taller if she wasn't missing the lower section and base. I've always thought the cracks in the lower area, crackles in the white surface and the small wound in her right side just add to her charm and vintage appeal. She was in this condition when we rescued her from an estate sale about 25 years ago. She's been supervising our studio ever since but has decided she needs a new adventure and a new home... so we've decided to oblige her and grant her desire. Just imagine how great she'd look ensconced in a cluster of iris flowers or ferns.

PictureVictorian Fashion 2 test Paintings Godey's Ladies Book Style

Here is a vintage pair of original works of art, each different, but both depicting 2 women and a child in Victorian or Edwardian dress reminiscent of and perhaps inspired by the drawings of such elegant fashion groupings shown in Godey's Ladies Book. They are both signed by the artist although the name is difficult to read... might be F Chantry Coe. They appear to be done with watercolor and colored inks. They have been framed. Mats are paper and hand cut. Brown paper backing is cracking on backs. Picture area is about 3.5" high x 4" wide. Matted area is wider than that. Frames are 4-3/4" x 6-3/4". They are in very good condition.
